The GROUND RULES for this Forum

Post by JoeIsuzu »

To all members:

It is my intention that IsuzuPup.com will be a completely and unquestionably family friendly website. I have four kids, and I do not want anything on this site that they should not see.

Therefore, I reserve the right to remove any material that, in my judgment, does not meet this standard.

This is not meant to be offensive, I just want to make the ground rules clear.

If anyone has concerns with this, please PM me.

Thanks.

Everyone,

I need to call your attention to the "Ground Rules" again.

I've recently had to correspond with two members about posts and signatures that I consider "over the line".

It is possible that some may have missed the "Ground Rules". Please take note of them (actually, only one rule). This site will be family friendly.

There are other sites that allow anything and everything. I'm not trying to change the other sites. But if that's what you want here, it's not gonna happen. Please respect the rule while here.

I'll be willing to discuss this with anyone, just PM, IM, or email me.

Thanks for understanding.

Since this forum started, there have always been a few folks who missed the "Ground Rules" post, and commence to use profanity in their posts. My assumption is always that they just missed the "rule" and did not intend to offend.

When this happens, my usual response is to send a PM to the member, and point out the Ground Rules thread. I am, and will always be careful not to be judgmental about what folks do elsewhere, and I avoid making any personal attack or even criticism. Almost without exception, the members are gracious enough to "clean up" their posts--they're generally even apologetic.

But I'm always torn between
a) "fixing" (editing) the offending post(s) immediately, and
b) PMing the member and asking them to fix it.

Of course, "b" is more desirable, because the member generally learns the Ground Rule that way. However, it may be days before the member gets the PM, and meanwhile, others continue to read the post. And recently, a member spent about half the day debating me about the rules, and he insisted that I really just wanted him to "leave".

I don't have the time or the energy for these debates, and I don't need to spend the time following up on the ones who I have to PM about it. It's not up for debate. At this moment, I'm still awaiting a response from one member who needs to do some editing. I may give it another day or so before do some cleanup.

From this point forward: Posts that, in my judgment, violate the spirit of this one rule ("unquestionably family friendly") will be deleted. No explanations, by comment or PM (unless an explanation is asked for)...just deleted.

Edit: Apparently, I need to explain that simply substituting some letters in offensive words with *, $, %, #, @ (or whatever) does not make them acceptable. Any moron knows what was meant, and this does not make it "family friendly".

If anyone has any comments, concerns, or wants to debate this, PM me (the "rule" is not up for debate, but I'll consider alternatives about how it's implemented).
