Here is an update on what's going on here in the big town of Cayce and the meet. I'm up for suggestions and questions.. Margaret, I'm not aware of any gem hunting in this area. Most of that is in the NC mountain area.

I know that the time isn't far off for the Cayce meet. I though that I'd list some places that some of you may want to see if you feel like you'd like to come in a day earlier or stay a day later... Cayce and West Columbia is just across the river from Columbia, the river is the dividing line of the two counties. Columbia is the state capital of SC and where most all of state government is located.
Cayce is a bedroom community of 12,000. I have lived in the same small house here for the past 56 years. I think that someone asked Andy about renting a cabin for a few days and I haven't found any camp grounds that have cabins. We have a state park that is located on the far side of Columbia , but they don't have any cabins, but have pull thru and tent, but I've heard that it's not the best in the past several years, so I won't recommend it. There are cabins for rent at the Santee State Park that is located on the beautiful Santee Cooper Lake Marion. They are right on the water. It's located about 45 miles south of Columbia. If anyone really wants to tent camp about the best that I can offer is the front and back yard next door to me. You'd be welcome to use the bath room, but the house is used to store my STUFF. Don't you all have some of that? :-) We do have a good ZOO, and a good Museum... If you like night life, the Vista is the place to be for food and drink. If you like flea markets we have two that aren't very far from Cayce. about 5 miles. Easy to get to. I make both fleas most Saturday mornings. Both are open on Sunday but are a little slower on Sunday. The US # 1 is where you'll find all of what I call the junking and people cleaning out the garage stuff and you never know what you'll find there. And they have several vegetable stalls that are run my the Hispanics. If you really want the best stuff you'll need to be there right at day light. You could make that one and be at our breakfast by 8 AM. The Barnyard Flea is about a mile and a half from the US #1 and it cranks up a little later than the #1 Flea. The Barnyard does have trailer parking but I don't think they have any tent camping...

I'm sort of a one man show here on this, with also being a care giver, I have to work all of this in. So if any of you need anything I'll try and get back to you ASAP that I can.. If any of you are planning on flying in, I'll be happy to pick you up at the airport and the motel that I'm recommending is only about 1 mile away.

What I'm looking at is gathering at Shoney's which is across the street from the motel at about 8 AN and have breakfast and leaving by 10 to the meet site. It's an easy straight drive and only one turn at the end for one block to the meeting site. have programs to about 12 noon. I was thinking something like Subs or have the making to make your own sandwiches, Tea, & soft drinks.. After lunch at about 5 PM we could all head out to the local BBQ joint that is 1 block away to the buffet or you could order off of the menu.. Programs haven't been set up yet, and I think that the meet is open to anyone that would like to put on one. I have a pop off unit made by Diesel Kiki but I haven't tested it yet. I hope to do that before the meet. I know that I have a couple of injectors and if Jerry would do a couple I'd buy a set of new nozzles from him to bring and do them. I also have a pop off tester that is made out of a bottle jack that isn't the best but that is what I used when I did mine before I bought the Diesel Kiki tester. We're looking for some of you that may want to show how you do some of the normal maintenance questions that keep coming up on the chat group. So let Andy or me know about some of your skill and what you'd like to show and tell us about.

Well have a map that shows the motel and Shoney's location that is off of the exit on I-26 Cayce exit a couple of weeks before the meet. If any of you are planning on coming, I'm going to need some sort of head count so I'll know how to plan the lunch meal. I think that my daughter in law will be bringing some sweets for us.

One of the great side benefit of the meet is the buying and selling of the parts that are brought.. I hope that Jerry brings his load of parts this year to sell. So start gathering up your STUFF to bring. I can be reached at ( gcromer at usit.net ) You can call me at 803 794 1483, but you need to talk to me, my wife may not remember to tell me that you called or have copied your number either.. I have a lot going on here with some medical tests the next few weeks and the week after the meet I'll be having my left knee replaced. I told the doctor he wasn't cutting until after the meet, so Oct 21 the blade comes out..

Lets hear from you guy out there..

I searched gem mining in SC and the only place I found was in a city called Due West located between Anderson. SC and Greenwood, SC. You may find some in the museum, but as nice as you are, I doubt if they'll let you have any to take home.

If you come up I-95 from Florida, this place is right off 95 just past I-26, which goes to Cayce. It may be an hour away, or so.

Margaret,

Thermal City Gold mine is a pretty nice spot. They have cabins and camping options. The cabins are not 5 star but for the price they are pretty nice. It is a few hours north of the meet in NC. Maybe before or after? I usually sluice for gold when I go but they have gems as well. I know that I always end up small gems in my sluice.

Andy, add me to your list as an attendee please. Every other one I have missed for one reason or another. I am going to make this one. I have an OTC injector tester, a complete wiring harness minus the stuff to the tailights for a 2wd. I also have an engine. I'm not interested in selling anything, but if anything would be useful for a demonstration I would be happy to bring it. I also have a home made biodiesel reactor that also doubles as (and mainly what I use it for) a vegetable oil processor. I could bring it. I wish my samurai would be up for the trip by then, but I doubt it will be. Hopefully I will be done swapping the pups frame. Otherwise I will tow a small trailer with my Mazda.

Alright, I have you down on the list now! We're up to ~27 now. We're having quite a few members come that do the veggie thing. Fluke, Science, yourself, to name a few off the top of my head. I can't wait to hear you all talk about it as you share experience and bounce ideas off each other.

This one is going to be a good one for sure. I can't wait to put more faces to screen names. The Isuzu community is strong in the south. Probably because of lack of salt on the roads during the winter months.
If there's interest I'd still like to schedule a show and tell on Bio/D and veggie oil/alt fuels. I've been in that scene a long time and I know John (hjalbert) has too. Andy, not sure if you have a formal schedule of events and times or not but if you think its a good idea to have a time slot devoted to this sort of thing, lets pencil it in. :D

Can't wait to go, so excited. I'm bringing a few parts if anybody is interested. 5-speed tranny with drive shaft from a 86 2.3 liter pup. A set of dulely wheels that fit our 6 lug pups. A long bed diesel fuel tank if anyone that may want to add a extra fuel tank for veggie oil like I did on my Luv. A 86 center console that is in good condition and a few other small parts/pieces. Any requests?
Mike.

Is the '86 center console from an LS? The one with the extra gauges? If so I want it!

Ray, I don't see why we can't have sometning on the bio-diesel subject. I'd like to see input from the other bio fans as well. I'm on my phone right now, so it's more difficult to access the rough draft schedule of events that Gerald has put together. Ddcuning may be there also. He's also been running his Isuzu c223 (S10 version) on veggie for years now. I have 2-50gallon round tanks w/ guages that I was going to use for something, but if anyone is interested in one, or both, let me know. I'll probably sell them, or trade for something. I won't haul them to the meet. Maybe I could manage 1 in my truck bed if somebody really wants it. if there's a taker that lives near me, or go thru NC on their way home, talk to me. you can stop by and pick 'em up.

Thanks Mike. I would also love to have a diesel tachometer cluster gauge and sending unit from an LS also if you have one!
