We have 2, maybe 3 more who have signed up! Feverdog is a new member. Hopefully, we'll get an intro and his location soon.

I think Feverdog said he's from Fayetteville, NC but the LUV belongs to his dad, who lives in Somerville, TN--about 30 minutes from me. His dad's LUV is the subject of the transmission upgrade demo. We talked today, and we're trying to work things out so that it will leave the meet under its own power, and with a "new" transmission.

I really hate you can't make it, but I know how it is. We'll be working on a SC meet next, I suspect. Surely you can make it to SC! Let's hope you can

That I will definitively try to make that one. Thanks

I am considering the trip out there for this but only if I put A/C back in the beast with the new engine & transmission I hope to have going in a few weeks.

Hope you can make it. Greenville is about 9 hours away, if I recall correctly. Please keep us posted.

9 hours is a drop in the hat for me. I drove to jackson, TN for work last year on my birthday (june 14th) and I might be able to even get the company to write it off for a site visit there again if I stop in Jackson for a day or two! I just prefer a comfortable drive, in this case-- A/C is almost a requirement. Right now the truck would make it regardless of A/C.. but I am getting picky in my old age! Would anyone be offended if a Mitsubishi towed an isuzu there?

Anyway, someone has to represent the Isuzu Offroad crowd, and why not the official Darlington Offroad Racing Pit Crew truck? :D

I've been off this week, and I'm working to get things together. Yesterday, I got the "demo" engine powerwashed (hot) at a detail shop. It was SO covered with greasy dirt and dirty grease! They cleaned it while it was strapped to a skid in the bed of my P'up. Now I have bits of grease that they blasted off the engine, all over the truck.

Today, I finally got the torque converter, flex plate, and flywheel off, and mounted the engine on a stand.

Bo, that's great! Please be sure to let Andy ("puttputtinpup") know, if he doesn't see this. Where are you coming from?

Prep work continues. I'm waiting to hear back from the T-shirt vendor about the photos I sent. After spending a little time on my P'up, I started prepping the "new" transmission for the upgrade we're doing for feverdog. And I learned something today: at least SOME of the newer transmissions had 6-tooth speedometer drive gears. That means, if you use the 6x18 driven gear from the original transmission, no correction is needed. Mine had a 5-tooth ring gear, so I had to use a $75 ratio adapter. I don't know which vehicles had 5-tooth ring gears and which ones had 6-tooth ring gears. The one I have with 5 teeth is from a Turbo Impulse, I think 1987 model. The one with 6 teeth is from a '92 Amigo. Does anybody know what the '88-'85 2.3 Pickups used?

I got you down on the list. Jack, I found one of Bo's earlier posts stating he was from POPLARVILLE MS, if you'd add it to his profile, or signature pls.

Thanks Andy! Got it!

And, I called another sorta-local member who hasn't been on the site in a long time (memphislineman). He's bought and sold a few P'ups, and he gave me several locations where he's seen them parked. I'm almost certain I even found two of them using Google's Street View, based on his recollection of the locations. One is a TurboDiesel, too! Another is a gas SpaceCab. Both are pretty far from me, but tomorrow I'll be passing pretty near where the TurboDiesel lives ;) --so they'll get a personal invite to the meet! I'm also hoping to track down a TD SpaceCab sometime before the meet that was reported by another member.

Jack, I am thinking seriously about coming to the meet. I would like a little more info. I'm a new member and not formilar with what happens at the meets. What is the cost and what is the schedule? I will probably drive in early sat. morning and spend sat. night. I wil be coming in on highway 78 from alabama and will need motel in the area. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. will be bringing my adult son with me. I haven't been able to get my wife involved in this truck thing yet. I will appreciate any info. thanks , Phil cottingham oldpop.

Phil,
  • Here's the Schedule and it includes the costs (basically, meals and your lodging). If the T-shirts are finished in time, they'll be for sale at around $10 each (I'm waiting for pricing info).
  • Here's the link to Lodging & Camping (sorry, it's kinda long).

Let us know if any of your questions are not answered there.

And click HERE to let Andy (puttputtinpup) know you and your son are attending, once you decide. Andy is keeping track, so we'll know how much food to order for lunch and supper on Saturday.
