Hello from L’il 86 P’up
I bought my Pup brand new in Memphis for $6000 which seems like a lot for a vehicle without a/c or a radio but I was young and inexperienced in dealership haggling. (I never did add air, but of course had to have tunes!) I tried to trade it in on a new VW Cabriolet a few years later but the dealer only offered me lunch money for it so I said fork you I’ll just keep it, and so I did. It has been a camping buddy, a good friend large item hauler, a good friend loaner, and now a farm worker when I need to pick up sticks out of the field.
Thanks for the add!

Welcome to the site, Jenny!
For everybody else: I replied to Jenny's verification email, since she's from Memphis. She told me:
1986 Gas P'up in Memphis
I assume this is gas, because I did not see a "DIESEL" emblem on it. Jenny, is that correct? If so, which engine?

I remember that "sighting" and I remember leaving the note. Here it is:

Welcome to the forum.

Looks great! Appears remarkably rust-free, with none in the usual spots. Looks to be well taken care of. I re-did my seat covers with the same kit, from Walmart. /R

Sadly when I went 12 miles into town yesterday Pup decided that was the day the oil pump should give out.

Back in the saddle
after a country tow to a country mechanic known as Handy Randy who diagnosed a leaky oil pressure sensor and pronounced it “a good little truck!”Re: Hello from L’il 86 P’up

Yep, the oil pressure sensors on the pups are bad about getting weak with age.

Well that was a wise decision way back then.
The majority of VW Cabriolet/Rabbit/Golfs made their way into the junk yard before the 90s.
Beautiful old truck.
