1992 Chevrolet LUV from Indonesia

Post by ubs_lover »

Hi I'm Andy from Indonesia.
I'm a big fan of Trooper and P'Up. I've been here from 2009 with some P'Up project that never finished

Now I came with specific Indonesian market 1992 Chevrolet LUV.
01 Awal.jpg
Yes it's a P'Up.
What makes it Indonesian Market is because the frame and drivetrain are from 1992 1st Gen Trooper with 2.3L (similar to late 1987 US spec Trooper)
or you can say that it's a 1987 P'Up body with 1988 PickUp drivetrain and frame.

The story is back in 1990s when Caltex need a 4x4 pickup. But when Caltex came to GM Dealer what they have is a 2.3L 4x4 1st Gen Trooper and a 2.2L Diesel 4x2 LUV. So GM dealer came up with idea of switching the body.
Caltex's LUV
Caltex's LUV
Here's some brochures for that 4x4 P'Up and the least popular 4x2 Chevrolet Stallion (with Trooper body)

It looks awesome on the first photo with big tires. I am thinking about switching my tires too to a larger ones.

Hi Andy, I hope you're still around. I happened upon a website where there are at 6 brand new glow plug dropping resistors for sale, there in Indonesia, and I want to buy all 6, pay for shipping one time, and have them all here for others who may also need one. These are still factory-sealed in the plastic packaging. May I impose on you to arrange contact with this store owner so I can buy these?

Thanks and take care.

Hi, I'm back 8)

The P'Up already finish from the paintshop with the correct Caltex Green paint code.
After a month driving with that plain looks and after seeing this video https://youtu.be/wax4WxqviHk I prefer to use the 1981 LUV decal theme.
Thats because Green Caltex looks like LUV's yellow and the 4wd decal is more attractive

But deep down it's still an Isuzu to me 8)

I try it on a light offroad track, and this old 2.3L petrol performs very well

Indonesian LUV has a line of hooks on top of the bed rails. I shaved it so it looks like US market LUV-P'Up

Whoa Andy, hope you remember me! This is literally the post I've been waiting for, for 10 years. Amazing looking truck -- would love to see some close-ups of the interior and under the hood.

Is this the same truck that you posted photos of guys welding on several years ago? Really glad to see your truck looking as great as it is now, this is so exciting :D
~ Cheers, Steve.

Excellent looking truck Andy!! Impeccable timing as well. I was just on Tokapedia's website yesterday, trying to get the app to display in English so I can navigate it, and I still can't get these dropping resistors bought. I tried using Google Translate to translate the entire page, and that didn't work either here on my desktop computer.

If you have any luck with contacting the owner of the shop, I'm still interested in purchasing what he has there.

Thanks again, and take care.

James.

Hi Steve, sure I remember my JDM Faster companions 8)

Have not done much with interior. Just replace the bench seat with Trooper's bucket seat, planning to convert it into Mikado's highback sometime
Replacing the 2spoke skinny steering wheel with Holden Aska's (Isuzu Aska in Japan or Chevy Cavalier in US) which looks like LS trim steering wheel and carry over the rare console box from failed 2 pickup before.

Yes, it's completely different truck
Sold two failed old project and buy this one

Looks great! That is indeed a very interesting panel with the radio delete and one lever for where the heater and fan controls once were.

I hope you can help James out on that part -- I'm unable to find any on eBay or other sellers as well.

We got only the basic trim with just "Shut" or "Open" ventilator with no fan. Dealer than add AC system with knob near steering wheel.
Yes I keep the radio deleted panel, functioned as a tray. Still thinking how to add a sound system without breaking it. Already had another panel for backup.

I've contact the seller and I can help to buy it. But sending it to US will be very difficult and expensive, approximately around USD 200 each

Hi Andy, it shows on Tokopedia that the price is Rp750.000. I use xe.com for foreign currency conversions, and it’s showing me the conversion of $50 USD each if I’m inputting the numbers correctly. I have my own FedEx account, if that would help with shipping. Paul sent me an email about there being some charge relays that he would like to get in with this shipment. Is there any information I can provide to help you with this?

Love the video, Andy! But for sale already? When are you going to enjoy your truck??

It sure is odd seeing a P'up up top and a Trooper underneath :D
