do all diesel pup`s have 5 speeds ? mine indicate 4 on knob!

No. In fact, all 4wd P'ups (which your profile says is what you have) were 4-speeds through 1985. The 5-speed 4wd was introduced in 1986.

2wd P'ups were available in 5-speed, 4-speed, and automatic versions in all years.
