Torsion keys cranking for lift
Hey guys, I'm considering cranking the torsion bars on my 81 4x4 diesel to level the truck with the back end. I know on GM diesels, cranking the keys or adding a leveling kit plays hell on the front end components because of the CV angles and rides terrible. Is that an issue on these trucks? Anything I should consider before going that route?

I don't know the answer -- but I just noticed you're also on the Isuzu P'up Facebook group.
Truth is, I know very few people here by their real names.

I'm curious why the rear end is higher than the front in the 1st place. Is there a lift kit on the back? Extra leaf spring added? IMHO, typically the rear will sag lower than the front especially on 2wd shortbed

That would be me! Lots of good info on the FB pages. The LUV ones are a bit bigger I noticed, guess they sold more of them than actual Isuzus

I believe the spring pack is stock, but yes the rear end is a bit higher. It's a 4wd short bed. How many leafs should it have.puttputtinpup wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 1:01 am I'm curious why the rear end is higher than the front in the 1st place. Is there a lift kit on the back? Once upon a time, I had an '81 LUV 4WD series 11 gasser, short bed, and it had 5 spring leafs. And the only thing that was Chevrolet was the stamp on the tailgate!I believe the spring pack is stock, but yes the rear end is a bit higher. It's a 4wd short bed. How many leafs should it have.

Re: Torsion keys cranking for lift
Like all real trucks on the market the rear of the vehicle is designed to ride higher when empty. This design is implemented to retain driveability of the truck when its fully loaded.
If your front end is sagging because of age adjusting the t-bars tension until factory height is achieved won't be a issue & is a good idea. Going 1.5" above that to level off the truck won't hurt either. 2" and your CV joint starts to sit a little crooked at its null point. Your driver's side can go a little higher because when you sit in the vehicle the suspension will lower about 1/2" for the average person.
When I make these adjustments on any vehicle I set the driver's side height first with a person sitting in the driver's seat. Then match the passenger side height to the drivers side. It makes for a happy medium between good ride height & function..
