oil pressure and voltage gauge connections

Post by spideypop »

I just picked up an oil pressure and voltage gauge set from an LS center console and have been looking for the connector in the chassis harness but can't find it. My truck did not come with those gauges but I'm assuming that the connections are there someplace because of the standardization of manufacturing processes??? Is that a correct assumption? If so, does anyone know where it might be located?

Thanks for your help.

It requires two senders, using a "tee" fitting. Your stock sender is simply open/closed (for the idiot light), so you'll need one that is for a gauge.

Thanks for the reply Joe, I read that on the forum. What I was specifically looking for is where inside the cab to plug the harness in?

Thanks

Oops. I should read more carefully. I know I posted a pic of that connector at least once in the last year or so. I'll see if I can find it.

I have installed the lower cluster in my '84 deluxe which had the connector, not under the mat, but tucked up under the dash. An extension cable (found with the lower cluster at the wrecking yard) was also required to extend to the lower cluster.

My '82 standard does not have the connector and I have not installed a lower cluster because of this. I could, however add the needed wires to make it work with sufficient enthusiasm. Not, so far.

Thank you Joe and Paul, I greatly appreciate your insight with these little gems of a truck, and your willingness to share. My 40+ year experience is with VW diesels.

I'm not sure what model my Ca. 84 is but I suspect it's the "bare bones" model as it originally came with the basic instrument cluster and vinyl floor covering.

A while ago I added a stock interiors carpet kit and don't remember seeing any rouge connectors in the location shown in the picture you reference, thanks Joe.

I just picked up all the parts for a 5 speed swap and lots of other goodies (insert shameless plug for Hillbillie1...Mike is a great source for pup parts and real nice guy). The diesel tach cluster I picked up from him was "plug and play" so I'm hoping the lower cluster is too. That being said, I have looked under the dash and have as yet been unable to find an empty connector that fits that cluster.

Paul...if possible could you elaborate on where to look under the dash, where you found the connector on your 84? I have a sneaking suspicion I'll have to do some creative wiring to get my cluster to work, but I'm not giving up hope yet to finding the one I need.

Thanks again fellas for your help.

OK, I will take another look under there. Been a few years.

Paul

By the way, the wiring diagram for the Calif diesel shows the connector and the cluster. Does not differentiate between models.

Well I've searched hi and low for the connector and I can't find it. So I'll just have to wire it myself.

Well, I composed a reply a few days ago but I don't see it here, so here goes again. Probably too late to help though.

To take a photo of the dangling connector proved to be too tough. I have though taken a photo of the extension cable which may be of some help. Check it out. The connector looking at you is the same as the one on the dangling cable.
