Microfiche 88-92 pickup parts list.

I acquired a set of microfiche cards for my truck. I understand I can take them to most local libraries and use their readers, but that doesn't feel like the best approach. Converting them to PDF would be ideal. But that has a significant cost. I'd like to share them here, so that they can be better utilized, but in their fichey state I can't see how that's possible. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion.

I have some fiche too and have tried to scan them using my hi res photo scanner and even that was not really good enough. In the past, I have read them in an optical fiche reader and photographed the reader display and that was OK, but tedious.

I, too, would like a better way.

Yeah, I tried the photo scanner at 2K resolution, but only the big text was readable. I found a USB microscope for about $20. I'll order that and see if that might work better.

There have to be microscopes out there that have an adapter for a camera like Nikon or Canon. I've seen phone repair videos that are produced using a high powered electronic microscope.

I bought a stand to hold the camera, and that helps, but the text is still unreadable.
I think I can make it clearer with a less bright light underneath.
It's also a major pain to align it under the camera.

The camera I used to get these pictures says it's 2k. The camera in my cell phone is 16MP. I believe the conversion between k and MP is about 1 to 2 after doing all the math. So the 2k camera is about 4MP. I am lighting the fiche from underneath, so I just need to support my phone at a distance it can focus, and there's not much else I should need. I think I can use my watch to trigger the picture, so as to not shake the camera in the process. I hope it's just that easy. It would be nice not to have to spend additional cash and still get usable pictures.

There is a another source for the same info that you can find by searching for "Online Parts Catalogs" on this site. It's far superior to anything I came up with on the cheap.

Just curious; What was the original intent of the fiche? We’re these distributed to dealership service departments?

Correct, for dealers. It's hard enough to find these parts. Finding the part numbers helps a lot.
