I've always packed the bearings full and put a decent amount in the hub cavity, little bit on the cap and called it good. Never have been precise about it. Snug that outter nut, spin it backwards and forwards loosen it, tighten it till it touched and lock the nut.... Never had a failure yet...

Don't forget the oil supply line to the vacuum pump on the alternator. If that breaks your entire crank case is evacuated of oil rather quickly.
