Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
For the sake of keeping this post shorter, I'll just add the pictures and keep the rambling to a minimum. Finally we got the engine block and the transmission fully ready to install in the truck. We'll just add the cylinder head after getting the engine block back in the truck, because otherwise it ...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
Finally the engine block is rebuilt. New pistons and rings, cam and con rod bearings, sleeves and cam bearings, it was very hard to do, especially the cam bearings, I needed to order 3 sets and I needed them all. But I've manage to do it and the engine and cam spin real fine. 102.jpg A lot of work h...

Re: Rebuild time
Hey! I know this is an old post, but any thoughts about how to break in that diesel engine? I heard that you should do it under heavy load, like dragging something, within the first start. I'm also rebuilding an old engine and this part gets me scratching my head. Just replaced the bearings, liners,...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
ACESSORY PARTS RESTORATION: One of the things we did in the begginig was to inspect every part we took out and try to restore it the best we could. Here are some pictures of the parts restored: 80.jpg 81.jpg This metal tube for the radiator hoses was in terrible shape, we were able to buy one new or...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
THE STEERING SYSTEM: There were 3 things that this old turd had in plenty, oil leaks, rust and dirt. It was an abused truck, that got a lot of repairs during it's lifetime, some good, some bad. 69.jpg One of the battles was the steering system. I think that this battle was gracefully won this April....

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
Take a peak at the underside of the rockers where they contact the valve. See how worn they are. Many have wear marks in them that make it super difficult to set the clearance properly. Regrinding and hardening might best be done now if needed? Thank you, I'll do that and post a picture of them her...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
So, what I forgot to mention that we also did to this truck was to add a cabin air filter. This truck add lots of dirt inside, since it had none cabin air filter. So we managed to find a correct width and thickness filter that fitted above the blower motor, and just cutted it by length to fit. I als...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
So as I previously said, one of the things that I did in this truck was to fix the seats. These seats are not original to this truck, but they are confortable and in good shape. A original seat would cost me 60€ (around 65$) + the cost of upholster it. Since this was in pretty good condition I decid...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
If your heater core flow control is made of metal (not plastic) and the ends metal (copper?)then you might be able to find a radiator shop to rebuild it. Plastic ones are junk and very prone to leaking. A couple of members have successfully fitted a core from a 70's ford truck or bronco into that h...

Conclusion of this topic is that any ATF fluid does the trick?
I saw the KB manual for the steering fluid, but only says that uses 1L but not the type of fluid that you should use...

Re: crank pulley stuck
For future reference, this is how I do it: Take the started motor out, jam a strong hex key in the flywheel teeth, and use an impact gun if you have one. Otherwise, jam something there that it won't damage the flywheel teeth, like a strong piece of aluminium or wood, and use a long lever. Glad you c...

Re: Seller claims "no timing belt" on an 81-82?
Here Mine 82' European pup has no timing belt or chain. It has timing gears. But I believe that in the US all the trucks have timing belts because you got the ISUZU C223 engine. This is because the ISUZU C190 engine had no timing chain or belt (well, some models of the C190). Check the picture: timi...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
So ofc I'm leaving much of the work out of this post, because otherwise it would be an enourmous post. I've probably dissassembled almost every part of this truck an reassembled it back together. puttputtinpu mencioned the fact that I needed to care for the heater core, and ofc this was another batt...

Re: BEDFORD KBD 46 (ISUZU PICKUP 4WD) - FULL REBUILD
Looks nice! Good job. I would focus some attention on the heater core. Those are notorious for developing leaks. In the event your does leak, the floor in all it's glory will get wet with coolant. New heater cores are very hard to find, and pricy. Thank you! Yes I'll recheck it, it was very dirty a...
