Re: It's done
So far I'm pretty happy with the power and acceleration. Where I live in Indiana there aren't many hills either. Yes, I should've put 99.8% done! That's funny!

It's done
I'm sorry I should've done this a long time ago. Finally finished my 1983 shortbed. It was originally sold in California and then I got it from a guy in South East Minnesota for $500 in 2017. Started on the total restoration about 3 years ago. I actually bought 2 other scrap pups for spare parts. It...

Re: New Or Reman C223 Starter
It intermittently cranks slow like it's in a bind. It never clicks, it acts like the problem is in the motor. Is't this a gear reduction starter?

New Or Reman C223 Starter
Hello! I need a starter for my 83" diesel. Can you still get the OE starter which I think is Denso? I see there are a few choices for reman and new starters on Rock Auto. Does anyone have a certain brand that they have had luck with? I'd prefer new over reman. Thanks!!

Re: 2.2 diesel engine RPM / gear ratio
Believe it or not we had the correct adapter and I checked the IP timing @ .35mm 15 deg BTDC. According to the book it should be .5mm. I assume this is because it's a CARB engine. I'll reset it to the federal spec of .5mm and see what happens. Has anyone experimented setting it at .55mm or .6mm?

Re: 2.2 diesel engine RPM / gear ratio
I work at a Caterpillar diesel and we have a multitude of fuel system tools and dial indicators. I'll see if we have the correct adapter. Thank you so much!!

Re: 2.2 diesel engine RPM / gear ratio
I'll have to read in my service manual how to adjust the timing. Are there any special tools required?

Re: 2.2 diesel engine RPM / gear ratio
I really appretiate the input here! I would like to get this figured out before I put the bed and cab back on. One other thing I forgot to mention is that this truck is a CARB engine or one that had an EGR manifold. Is this fuel system choked down?

2.2 diesel engine RPM / gear ratio
Hello! I'm in the process of completely restoring a 1983 4X4 pup 2.2 diesel w/ 4 speed manual transmission. Before I put the body back on the frame I'd like to get the perfect engine RPM for highway driving. It has a 3.42 rear gear ratio from an 1987 gasser. I don't have the front driveshaft install...
