Wow!
I have never seen nor heard of this before. A C'shaft will be hard to find. Probably best to find a newer tranny.

Re: Fluid creep
Yes, there is an Oring on the driven gear shaft. Very easy to replace. Unscrew the speedo cable from the gear drive on the tranny & then remove the bolt holding the driven gear assy onto the tranny. Now use a knife/pair of screwdrivers to carefully pry the gear assy from the tranny. Very best to...

Re: IP stops suddenly
Forgot to mention. There is the possibility (as already suggested) that the insulation on this wire is imperiled, especially if the fuse blows only intermittently.
You can use the wiring diagram to follow the harness to inspect it.

Re: 15amp Regulator fuse keeps blowing
I am trying to track down the reason this fuse keeps blowing. I don't know the the location of the regulator or how it works, but I do know that when its fuse is blown, the IP does not work. That fuse is second from the firewall and serves the alternator, the fuel cut solenoid, two vacuum switching...

Re: Gear befuddlement
I was given a handful of good engineering articles from a pretty sharp individual about manual transmission bearings and read them quite thoroughly. If you find a 17 spline 5 speed and rebuild it with sealed bearings, you'll be more than fine and it will save you the stress of trying to find the sl...

Looks good. Method # 3 !
If you need or want to you could use an elastic stop nut so as to not tighten things up too much. Or (not my fav) loctite for the same.

Perhaps a thicker and somewhat larger diameter washer under the bearing will keep the cam on the bearing?

Hi Jack - -
I am having some trouble figuring out how your selected parts are going to work, so keep us posted.
If you have trouble the way you are planning, you might consider Charlie B's method which looks OK to me.

Re: Intermittent Starter Issues
The black with white stripe wire connects the starter relay (located on the drivers side fender) to the starter solenoid (on the starter). This wire has a seldom seen connector in it, about halfway down the drivers side. I have had this connector open up due to 40 years worth of corrosion. Result is...

No, no change in NVH, of which diesel PUPS have plenty. As I noted earlier, one needs to be careful to give enough throttle on takeoff, especially if you're a 2nd gear takeoff person. But, after takeoff, the acceleration is noticeably improved.

I don't think that the turbo diesel was sold in Calif; therefore probably not Calif turbo diagram. ??

Re: Diesel options other then C223
The VW diesel engines are powerful and smooth running. They also get better fuel mileage. The early ALH versions have the best reputation for longevity and simplicity. I have long contemplated this engine but have never done anything about it. One diffic0ulty I can think of is that the exhaust will ...

Thanks for the response.
While some of these things may happen to a degree. I am going to let it run as is and hope for the best. I do definitely like the difference in acceleration.

Re: Flywheel Weight
sure enough there are different p/n's for the balancers on the n/a and turbo engines. Truck has 287k miles now. Maybe let you know. Paul Assuming that 1/2 way decent maintenance was carried out for most of the vehicle life time the engine will start to act tired right about 250 to 300K miles. Howev...
