Aussie Isuzu Kb 4x4 diesel owner here!

Postby mrflibbles » Sat Dec 01, 2018 10:40 pm

HI everyone,

I have just found myself an owner of a 1980 Isuzu KB 4x4 Diesel here in Australia (last of the luv shaped ones before they squared them up and called them rodeos here)
I can find my way around a petrol luv easy enough but the diesel is a new beast for me! it was originally fitted from factory with a c190 (2.0l diesel) but that has been replaced with a big block c240 2.4l diesel at some point. i am not expecting too much improvement on speed but will see when it gets running!
i thought this site would be good for more diesel info as i haven't found heaps about these particular diesels anywhere on the net yet.
Thanks for having me!

Welcome aboard. Off the line you should do better, but the 240 will limit your top speed as compared to the 190. The 240 redlines around 3k RPM... Glad to see some pictures! These diesels are a lot simpler than working with carbs in my opinion. As far as I am concerned they run on magic...

wasn't expecting too much from the c240, most of what i have been able to find all points to it being a forklift/stationary engine! im sure if i can wrap my head around the voodoo of carbies i should hopefully have some understanding of diesels!

Welcome to the forum! Although I am a big pup fan, I like the looks if the old LUVs a whole lot.

Anybody notice that the IP is an in-line pump and to a rotary pump. I like that! Makes me wonder if the timing is gear driven and not belt driven? Very cool. Welcome to the site and thanks for posting the pictures.

Yeah no timing belt on this one, it’s definarely gear driven. Saves me at least one job to do on it!

Welcome to the site. And by the way, you should also check out the LUVTruck.com forum. They are 99% focused on 1st generation LUVs, although we never got any diesels until the 2nd generation (your Rodeo, I guess).
