Oil leak help

Postby IdaPup » Thu Nov 08, 2018 2:18 pm

I think I've isolated the oil leak to the oil filter housing. Only leaks when running. This housing thing is a separate manifold-like object that exists solely to screw the oil filter onto. I think oil is leaking from between the engine and housing. Internet searches aren't showing me a gasket/o-ring for my year model. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

I'm not at all familiar with the 2.3, but there's definitely a seal on the C223 diesels. I suspct the 2.3 has them, although they may not be the same. I'd email Jerry ("JLEMOND" on this site) -- jlemond@bellsouth.net and he probably has them.

Thanks for the reply. So is Jerry a source for lots of parts?

I went to take that housing off to see what the gasket looked like and discovered all the bolts holding it to the block were loose. After tightening them the oil leak is much slower now. I may continue looking for the slower leak source but at least it's manageable now.

Jerry is THE source for any genuine Isuzu parts that are still available, and he probably has some parts that are unavailable elsewhere. That's not saying he can get absolutely everything. Unfortunately, there are some parts that are just no longer available anywhere except via the salvage market and the occasional eBay seller who decides to unload some old stock parts.

For me I just use a nice thin layer of "the right stuff". Works great every time. Even had to hold an oil drain plug in place with it on my 64 c20 because the threads were stripped out. Just don't put gobs of the stuff on. A nice thin bead is all you need.

IMHO it's a little better than a gasket for certain applications like this because these engines weep oil from vibration and that stuff conforms to every tiny irregularity.

Maybe you haven't discovered it yet, and it took me a while, but there's a factory OEM parts source on this very wonderful website. It's proved invaluable to me many times over. It's under Parts, Sources for Parts, Need a Factory Part Number?, click on the first akadia.ru link, and choose your rig. Don't be alarmed that some of it is in Cyrillic. Your gasket appears to be OEM part #8942236820, according to the diagram.

Thanks I'll keep that part number. For now I'm going to leave it be because it appears to have sealed up.
