Obligatory Introductory Post

Postby IdaPup » Thu Nov 08, 2018 1:59 pm

Hello everyone. Fresh member from Idaho here. I just found a screamin deal an 86 pup 4x4 5 speed. I believe that would be the 2.3l gasser. Has 208,xxx on the clock and the PO claims a rebuilt engine was installed about 55,000 ago. Planning to use it as my extra "beater" vehicle. It's also becoming somewhat of a status symbol among my buddies to have a little old pickup as a daily. It's the cheapest vehicle I've ever owned. It's the only vehicle I've ever owned without A/C. Lastly it's the only vehicle I've ever owned with manual crank windows. I'm already in love! She's a runner and got me 30 miles home. Definitely some issues I need to fix before I'm comfortable daily driving though.

Already fixed:
Short in the brake light circuit (previous owner installed a new dome light and wired it backwards)
Seat belt that wouldn't wind back in
Reverse light switch with torn out wire
Removed smog pump

Still need to fix:
Figure out which vacuum lines to plug/delete. Vacuum systems are confusing to me...
Considerable oil leak (looks to be from the oil filter housing)
Heater core not flowing, and possibly trying to leak
Both outer cv boots torn
Randomly dies while idling

Anyway I'm going to make another post elsewhere asking for advice on some of these fixes. Thanks everybody.

Welcome to the site, IdaPup!

Never had crank windows, huh? Must not be from my generation. ;)

Where abouts in Idaho? I lived in the south east around Idaho Falls for a few years. Beautiful area.

Welcome aboard.
