A/C R12 to R134 retrofit

Postby missionkiter » Thu Jul 05, 2018 5:31 pm

I am in the process of of converting my pup A/C from R12 to R134 freon. If you don't already know you have to change all of your A/C o-rings because normal R12 o-rings can become compromised from the chemicals in the R134 freon. There is a O-ring kit on Amazon that has every o-ring you will need but one.

https://www.amazon.com/265Pcs-Condition ... o+ring+kit

The one o-ring that I had trouble finding is one of the two (bigger one) that is attached to the compressor. This o-ring is not available in any R134 o-ring kits and it is not available at any of the auto parts store.

I talked to a local o-ring expert to locate this product and It can be purchased here: CLEVELAND O-RING; VITON (A-117)

The product you need is a viton A117 o-ring (FA05002-37)

This could be really helpful to someone doing the same conversion. Strangely enough, my a/c shop just left out this o-ring. The system leaked down in one season, so I took it to the shop that works on our other vehicles. They discovered the missing o-ring, and somehow managed to find one. My a/c has been great for two summers now.

Yes I think you are right. If anybody is going to take their truck to a A/C shop for this conversion they should show up with this O-ring.

I think most shops will not take the time to track down this hard to find item when they realize they don't have it.

One more note: This may not apply to all a/c systems. Even the factory systems went through several changes between 1981 and 1987. And all bets are off, if it's an aftermarket a/c kit.

Jack the A/C install worked. Thanks for all off your help! I want to sell some of these extra parts I have. Do you know the name for a pully + bracket that I removed to install the compressor? I am not sure if this is something people ever need. I will also have a non-a/c blower assemble and non-A/C controls if you know anyone.
