Intro 1952 Chevy 3100 on 84 P'up chassis

Postby iChomps » Fri Aug 04, 2017 1:29 pm

Hi everyone. My names Aaron, I am a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the US Marine Corps (22yrs active), currently in Bahrain. I own a 1984 P'up with the 2.2L diesel, manual 5 spd with.... a 1952 Chevy 3100 body on it. Truck has 100K miles on it when the engine was redone, the transmission needs some work, 5th gear is whining so I've been reading through the posts on the topic. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the site, Aaron. And thanks for your service.

Yep, I'd definitely go for an upgrade rather than repairing the transmission.

Welcome to the site. Thanks for serving us. Don't drive it no more that you have to. If you can't do the upgrade, you may get by with replacing the bearings, especially countershaft bearings
Currently P'up-less, but keeping my eyes open for a good deal

And then refill with regular motor oil. No gear oil

I transfer back to the states in October and want to put a new trans in then. I'm still trying to find one.

iChomps, it looks like you bought the truck mentioned in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=24361&p=155894#p155894. I am not going to discuss price, but cool truck none the less. So it was purchased with an already bad transmission?

Chief, remember me when you get home, former AT2 USN. I just happen to have an Isuzu diesel with a five speed setting in my shop. Rescued it on the way to the shredder. Your intro says Wilmington, NC. Is that where you'll be? I'm close to Roanoke, Va. but have been to Wilmington several times (and aboard USS North Carolina). There's an A6 Intruder (the old bird I worked on) on display in Havelock, NC close to one of the Marine bases. I want to introduce some folks to it as it's accessible to civilians.

And I definitely want to see a 52 Chevy riding a pup.
