AWAY we go! Ed and Pam's Spacecab Adventure
Re: AWAY we go! Ed and Pam's Spacecab Adventure
The mini meet was a blast, really enjoyed meeting everyone.
Mark got so excited he bought the truck from us and we flew back home...
We made it fine.
End of the adventure... hahaha.. that went a lot quicker than expected!
But seriously, we kinda made a judgement call on the truck based on the first hundred miles from the airport and we all decided that the truck would be better off spending its days on the west coast. So Mark got a good deal on a rough little spacecab, Ed and Pam went home after a great mini-meet. Everyone was very hospitable, there was a good attendance and lots of nice pups to look at and drool over. Really enjoyed the glowplug presentation, I really want a copy of that slideshow.
We just now got back home, showered up and Pam's taking a well deserved nap.... I slept on the flight back, she couldnt sleep, of course I can sleep anywhere, I learned that from the Marine Corps days.

The meet was a success, sootfart was not feeling well and didn't make it, I was pretty sad
he is such a good guy, with a lot of good stories and pup info. wyliespup got snowed in at home and missed out. but lot of the nw guys made it. Our special guest , EDWRIGHT, was just awesome. It was an honored to have him here. All the guys were great with lots of info.It was great to see all the young guys interested and carrying the torch for us older pup owners. You would think these youngsters would want big new trucks with big payments. If I were to sum it up in a couple words----- It was over way to fast. I am looking forward to a full fledged pup meet. and who knows maybe there will be a national meet someday

Sorry to hear the Spacecab wasn't up for a coast to coast. Arrowmntdiesel's a hero again. Pretty funny he had a tow bar. My wife was happy for bedtime last night so she didn't have to hear me complain about Mt. Hood getting hammered with snow. Wish I could of been there. Next time.

PICTURES!!! Man, I wish I could have been there too. How many did you have all together? Yes, I agree...the meets go by too fast. I'd love to attend a national meet maybe in Memphis??? hint hint, Jack. If we(somebody) planned it far enough in advance like next year 2011, I could take a week off work and go.
Re: AWAY we go! Ed and Pam's Spacecab Adventure
Here are some we managed to snap off.
pups, proud pup owners and of course the feed bag. Sorry, the meet wasnt long enough for me to memorize everyones name and I wasnt smart enough to write them all down....
I did want to say thanks to everyone for the help. ArrowMtDiesel stepped in and saved the day, but the entire crew was jumpin at the bit to give that pup a complete overhaul. I just couldnt see putting that much effort into it and I was nigh on 3 days without sleep already.
Thanks again all
Ed

Re: AWAY we go! Ed and Pam's Spacecab Adventure
Ed and Pamela,
You are both Hero's in all of our eyes!!! If all of us could be so adventurous and willing as the both of you were in this adventure, our worries in life would be much less!! I cannot say how thrilled I was to meet you Ed and also as a bonus to meet the wonderful woman that stands beside you through it all. Pam, you and Teresa would have a great deal of stories to tell one another, not sure it would be good for Ed and I to get you both together.
. Unfortunate that circumstances were what they turned out to be, but your courage brought you safely back home with one more story to tell the kids.
With a bunch of diesel guys there, all of us were fumbling around a bit once we got the air cleaner housing off of that 2.3L gasser. What a mess of vaccuum lines! My hats off to you gasser guys that deal with that! We are so spoiled with our 2.2L diesels and the one vaccuum line and one electric line we have to deal with. We did manage to get the spark plugs out of it and do a compression check on it. I feel that is when the reallity set in of what a trip of 3K miles would be like in this truck. (Long)
I don't know about "Hero"?, but doesn't every Pup fanatic carry a tow bar around with them?
, Just so happens that Tracy's friend Phil, wanted the dimensions off of it to fab one up. In reguards to that issue.... we knew that the frames were different between a 4wd and a 2wd, but who would have guessed that the bar I had made up for the 2wd would not bolt right on to the 4wd. Remove the skid plate and use a bit smaller bolts to attatch the bar and it did finally work. I know what Ed is going to make this week as well.
I drove about 100 miles on Friday afternoon pulling that spacecab with "Little Bo" (the black Luv) and all went well. Finished up the drive home Today, another 200 miles and again all went well. Averaged 55 mph most of the way, but any grades drop my speed quite rapidly. Several passes at 2000 ft elevation got me down to 2nd gear. Haven't checked my mileage yet, but not to bad from the looks of the fuel gauge.
I will post some pictures of what I got in the Pup meet section as well.

Who owns the pickup with the wheel lift? I'd love to see a few more pics of that rig.

Re: AWAY we go! Ed and Pam's Spacecab Adventure
that belongs to my buddy phil he is the guy that bought one of the flatbeds from the bees nest. Thats his diesel rabbit caddy pictured above. He has a few of those too. He is a good all round mechanic , he tows and work on all my stuff and I trade paint work on his cars. He bought that ford diesel as a total a few years ago and then he found that repo tow thing, used, and adapted it to his truck. Its pictured in the bees nest thread towing my turbo d back from eastern oregon. That thing is the handiest gismo i have ever seen. He has a trailer ball on it too so he can just go under a trailer and raise it to the hitch instead of spinning a jack down to it. Its all electric / hydraulic .

Re: AWAY we go! Ed and Pam's Spacecab Adventure
I'll let Jack have the final word, but I'd like to suggest this whole thread be moved to the mini-meet topic. Then the pics, and related stories can be together for future viewers. Just my 2cnets worth. I have enjoyed reading the posts and looking at the pictures very much. Also...who is claiming the VW Rabbit truck?? maybe I missed it if it has been posted already.
