Intercooler + scoop

Postby robgt22 » Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:15 pm

So I finally was able to finish the intercooler mounting and piping, and cutting a hole on my hood to fit a scoop, I spent some extra time cleaning the engine a lil, and it looks really nice. I'm actually running 15 psi of boost and I think I'm done playing with it. The scoop still needs some work but I'm ok my way :D.

Did it make much difference? power or mpg? I have a water to air intercooler i got from a wrecked rodeo diesel over here in australia.

Definitely power, but I raised my boost from 7psi to 15psi, however I first ran my intercooler without the hood scoop in, and after some minutes of going hard in the throttle my temps would rise and my power dropped, I did see a gain in MPGs as well, for me it was worth it. I'm guessing a water to air intercooler will keep temps better and give some extra performance. Which engine do you have?

After some highway and off-roading tests, I can say I'm almost where I wanted to be, trucks feel nice and strong, no overheating and I love to hear the turbo spool up, I just came from a small trip, and I couldn't be happier.

I've got a 4jb1t that I'll be putting the water to air on and stuffing it in an 86 pup spacecab. Should be interesting.
