Replacing exhaust on Diesel Luv, suggestions?

Postby mojogoat » Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:28 pm

82 Luv SB 5sp, the exhaust is mostly rusted away or trashed. Any advice on improving?
I think I ran into a thread that mentioned manifold that used a larger pipe.
If so where could I buy one?
Glass pack too loud?
Thanks

Good timing. See this:

Since your truck has a smaller exhaust outlet than the '83-'87 models, this might even improve performance.

Glass packs are not for old-school diesels, the soot will mess them up.

Im with Jack. This header will likely give you a big boost in performance. I had an 82 diesel with the smaller exhaust outlet, but added i think 2.25' pipe from the engine back...new flex pipe and generic Flowmaster. Mine would get up and go. Adding a header would be even better imho

Any one know the part # of the Exhaust Pipe Adapter w/flange that would bolt to a stock manifold? Can't seem to figure out the Walker exhaust catalog.

If you go with the header, it'll depend on what flange he has made up on the header

Thanks for the advice, a local muffler shop replaced my entire exhaust with 2.25", they did a nice job.

Is $150 too much for a new exhaust header for a diesel pup? Looking for feedback. I still have 3 of them.

I don't think so. I'd probably have bought one if they'd been available a few years ago, when Jerry overhauled my truck and installed a whole new exhaust system.

150.00 FOR A COMPLETE NEW HEADER IS ABOUT HALF OF WHAT A NEW EX MANIFOLD WOULD COST IF YOU COULD FIND ONE AND NOT PRODUCE ANY WHERE NEAR THE INCREASE IN PERFORMANCE , OF THE HEADER .

You.ve probably solved this problem by now...if not

A local real muffler shop will get you up and running

It did for mine ..no problems since
