Distributor question

Hello,


I was wondering why you have to use a 2.3 distributor on a 2.6 engine that's going into a 89 Isuzu pickup?

Only if you are using a carb. Or if the '89 is a 2.3/carb truck. The 2.6 distributor is computer controlled & synched to the EFI system & won't work with a carburetor. If the '89 truck is a 2.3/carb truck it doesn't have the computer or wiring to use the EFI distributor.

I see from your intro post your truck has a 2.3 engine. The simplest way to transplant a 2.6 is to use the 2.3 intake & carb, distributor and flywheel. You'll also need a 2.6 water pump pulley so the drive belts will align properly- 2.3 & 2.6 pulleys have a different offset because the water pumps are different lengths. There is a cable clutch bracket that bolts to the 2.3 near the bellhousing, transfer this to the 2.6 block if there are holes to attach, if not fab something similar to hold the cable clutch housing/sheath so you can use the stock 2.3 clutch & tranny.
You'll also need either an electric fuel pump & block off the mechanical pump boss in the intake or modify the 2.6 head to accept the stock 2.3 mechanical pump.

Hi there,

Thanks for all the info and I do have the extra parts 2 make the switch to the 2.6 engine. It will be nice to have a motor with more power.
