rear wheel bearing/parts

Postby moana69 » Mon Oct 15, 2018 4:09 pm

Hi everybody, I'm going to replace my rear wheel bearings and need some advice.
My car is an isuzu pickup spacecab from 1992, 4JA1 engine with a M75 diff.
From what I red on the forum, some early troopers have the same diff.
To take the axles out I need a slide hammer, correct?
It looks like there's a retainer ring that I will have to cut and finish with a chisel but when I'm looking at the drawing and the part list there's no retainer but a nut and washer.
The service manual mention a retainer.
This is really confusing.

I have a press that I made a few years ago, so pressing the bearings is not an issue.

I'm looking for replacement parts and what I found is:
oil seal inner: timken 473812
oil seal outer: ? (isuzu oem part number show a bearing...)
bearing: timken 74294

Any advice on the parts and do or do not will be helpful.
Thank you.

Hi, not much answers...let's try another one, I'm looking for the shaft seal (or pinion gear seal), the one under the flange.
ISUZU part number is 8 97146 826 0
hard to find ...do you know a crosspart number?
Thank you

Not trying to run you off, but you may want to also post this on the PlanetIsuzoo.com forum. Your 1992 Pickup probably has more in common with the vehicles that are popular on that site (specifically the Rodeo, Amigo, and even the Trooper) than it has with the P'up.

First off the "M75" on the option plate is the transmission, not the differential as you state. A M75 tranny is a MSG-5, which means you have an Isuzu 10-bolt rear & a 2.3L engine since you also have a VIN starting with "4JA1". This is important because rear axle assembly parts for the 10-bolt are different than the 12-bolt that was in trucks powered by something other than the 2.3L 4ZD1. The other axle option for 2.3 powered trucks was a GM 10-bolt in US-built trucks with a "4S1.." VIN. Parts must match the axle you have.
Part #'s for the Isuzu 10-bolt axle:
Pinion seal: Timken 474133
Axle tube seal: Timken 473812
axle bearings: Timken 30208M (this may be a set)
If you're replacing the pinion seal the nut is a 30mm, the shaft is a M18x15 in case you need to chase the threads. Be very careful to not overtighten, if you do you'll ruin the bearing, which requires a complete tear down & rebuild.
