1984 RHD Petrol engine....which one
Hey Guys
Our family has a 1984 RHD pick up that was purchased and resides in the Bahamas. I suspect it is a UK/euro spec truck but an not sure of which engine is has. What I do know is it is a gas engine. I will attach some photos and hopefully someone here will know which engine it is.
After that problem is solved, I am looking to pick up a rebuilt carburetor as this one leaks.
While the miles are low on this girl, the sea/salt air is hard on all things steel....
One of my challenges is that I live in the States and need to bring whatever I need to the islands to get her going... And if not obvious, I am not with the truck so these are the only photos I have at the moment.
Appreciate any help you guys can offer.
Thank you
Scott

I'm pretty sure that's a G200 1.9 liter. You can verify that if there's a "G200" in two-inch (or so) raised letters on the block, just above the left-side motor mount (as you're sitting behind the wheel). There also might be G200 stamped on the front of the cylinder head. The carb is likely a Hitachi DCH340 series, with suffix variants for Calif, Fed, manual, and automatic applications. If your carb leaks, I'd try a rebuild kit from, say, Rock Auto. Looks like fun! R/

I will be back with the vehicle next month. I will search out for the stamping. In the perfect world, i would prefer pick up a rebuilt carb. While i am good with a wrench, I have not rebuilt a carb and would prefer to bolt it in and go.
And as this is a right hand drive, I will be looking for the stamp on the block on the left hand side, opposite the wheel....correct?
Appreciate your help.

Correct, the stamped G200 (if that's what it is) should be on the block, same side as the exhaust manifold, near the dip stick and motor mount. You can do a Yahoo search for "Isuzu G200 engine", click images, and see what to look for. When you get to the truck, look for a vehicle ID plate, maybe on a door jamb. I don't see one under the hood above the firewall in your pics, where I've seen them before. That plate should show the engine and gearbox types (and other stuff) the vehicle had when it left the factory. For the carb, they're quite simple and there's plenty of guidance available, but suit yourself! R/

Re: 1984 RHD Petrol engine....which one
Well, I am back....with the same problem. One month turned into 10 but I finally got back to the truck.
I looked on the block, on the left side of the truck hoping to find G200 stamp. I looked the whole side of the block over, yet I did not see it. I look in front and back of the engine mount, and under the exhaust manifold.
What I did see on the side of the block, towards the rear, again on the left side is a raise stamp "83027". Not sure if this indicates anything toward engine model, etc.
Additionally, the carburetor leaking was the issue so I did remove that as well and brought it back to the states for rebuild or replacement...once identified. Below are photos of the engine stamp and full view of the carb. Any guidance on engine model or replacement carb would be great. And, while I am well schooled in land rover defenders, I know little about these trucks. Is there a better place to source parts?
I thank you in advance for any assistance.

Nice pics! Lacking any visible block stamping for a positive ID, I'll stick with a G200 1.9L, only because of where the fuel pump is located. The 4ZD1 2.3L fuel pump is under the carb, but a 2.3 wouldn't be in a 1984 unless it was transplanted. Don't know what those 5 raised numbers on the block are for. The carb ID? Hitachi used an ink stamp on the outside of the float bowl, just beneath the fuel inlet fixture from the pump. It may have vanished by now, but I'll bet it's a DCH 340. The clear glass float-level window is an earlier version; most have the round peep-hole sight window, or none at all. I'd go with a RockAuto rebuild kit Walker 15540C. I'd say a rebuild kit oughta do it, as long as the throttle shafts aren't wobbly. /R

Appreciate your help. I will look up the rebuild kit. It will be my first time down this path.
This truck has an enormous amount of sentimental value to our family, however its island life has been hard on her.

After looking at some old literature (I used to have an '81 LUV), I'm 99% positive your carb is a DCH340. The other carb it could be is a Hitachi DCR384, but that raised air horn was on the 340. Also on the 340, those two external cap screws under your float bowl are for the primary and secondary jets, whereas on the 384, those jets are accessed from inside the float chamber. I'd say it's a safe bet to get a kit for a DCH340. Is the VIN available? You might obtain the engine size from that; you'd have to decipher which digit it is. /R

Thanks for double checking.
The vin is not available. Truck is in the bahamas. The salt air has done a number on her but she is still loved despite looking a bit rough. The door jams have nothing left except the tire pressure plate. I looked back at old insurance forms and it is just listed as a pick up truck, no vin anywhere on the documentation...
Parts ordered and away we go.
Much thanks.

Here's where it's stamped on the head -- should be pretty easy to find. Definitely a 1.9L G200Z from the looks of it.

Australian RHD gets 3 kind of G-series for their Rodeo KB
G161 (1.6L), G180 (1.8L) and G200 (1.9L)
Japan and Indonesia only get G161 (1.6L)
All of G-series looks identical, you can tell which one by the stamp on the head
