95 Zu now not starting at all

Postby Tranz » Thu Aug 10, 2017 1:58 pm

Have changed plugs, cleaned EGR, mafs sensor, adjusted (slightly) throttle body, checked wires going into coil, new coil, turns over good just won't fire.

Do you not have spark? Spark but no combustion? Will it "want to" fire off with starting fluid?

Have you checked all fuses?

Checked all fuses, used starting fluid. Replaced coil about 6 months ago. As I said earlier it cranks over good but reminds me of no spark. Someone mentioned the IAC but would that give the same signs as no spark. Was running good then died and no start.

You're gonna have to not assume not apart, and actually check for spark. Pull the plugs. Start with one. Hook up the plug wire to the removed plug, ground the outer part of the plug against a good ground, and have somebody crank the engine over and you check for spark at the plug. If you have a timing light, you could just clamp it around the plug wire with the plug still in the engine.hook up the positive and negative clamps to the battery. See if the timing light strobes.

Everything that puttputt said and this too.
Starter fluid was the quick test to eliminate fuel/carb. issues, assuming you meant it had no effect at all.
Besides an electrical problem, a mechanical problem like the cam shaft can cause similar symptoms. The simple way to confirm that is with a compression tester, and while you have the spark plugs out ... it's a good time to check it. It would be relevant if you had very low or no compression. It's a good bet it's an electrical problem however :)

I had a similar experience at it was the coolant temperature sensor. May be unrelated but thought I would throw it out there!
