Short Bed to Long Bed Conversion?

Postby BravoDrew » Tue Sep 17, 2019 12:18 am

Has anyone ever converted from a short bed (or regular bed) to a long bed ? Is it even doable? and if so , worth it?

It's doable if you also swap the frame and everything else attached to it. ;)

Does anyone know the dimensions of the long bed, particularly the "rear of the cab to center line of rear wheel well distance?"

So, say one had a complete "donor longbed" vehicle... would it be possible to convert the shortbed to a longbed using the donor... or are there things that wouldn't line up or bolt together. wondering if anyone has done this...

This is a hopelessly futile quest. The frame arches are in the wrong place, the rails are too short, the brake lines are too short, the driveshaft is too short, the wiring harness is probably too short, the springs may also be too short the filler neck would probably not line up with the smaller short bed tank. Should I keep going?

If you have a donor long bed vehicle, put the good stuff from the short bed truck into IT.

I see... that makes sense. Now how about a SpaceCab model... I want to have my cake and eat it too. SpaceCab + Long Bed (doesn't exist.) Possible to hack it together? Or ridiculous. Just dreaming here.

a long bed space cab is more doable but that would leave 32 inches of bed in front of the ale and 62" overhanging the rear.
You would be just extending the space cab bed 18",

I was thinking you'd have to splice the two frames together, then the bed would line up with the wheel arches. But adding that much length to the frame would require some really heavy plating and add quite a bit of weight to a vehicle that's already marginally underpowered.
