Question for those with experience!

Question for those with experience!
If you add an accessory such as a electric radiator fan with thermal on-off switch, would you splice power wire into fuse box with a fuse tap or into ignition wire under dash to power up system?

Maybe use a Small relay like for a horn or fuel pump with 12v from the battery maybe but fused with an appropriate amp rated (for the fan amp draw) inline fuse & holder. Have the sensor get its source from a switched controlled 12v (fuel solenoid? Radio?) And run it through to trip the relay when cooling is called for by the sensor. Get creative and put a little lights on the dash to monitor constant 12v (green maybe) and maybe a red light wired into the fan power to show when they actually kick on.

Yeah, thats what I did. Just plugged it into fuse box with jumper wire. Thanks.

Question:
timing, I pointed crank pulley at 0 mark on pointer, and cam sprocket mark (little triangle) was visible and slightly pointing to passenger side. Two marks on camshaft pointing up and in line with #1 cam cap.. The rotor was pointing to post #4. This is how I installed the chain, with the crankshaft sprocketed gear timing mark facing down and key facing up toward head. I perceived this to be the compression stroke for #4 cyl.
Is this correct, or does rotor point to #1 on distributor? The valve timing is set to #1 cylinder firing on compression stroke!
The oil pump mark lineup places slit at end of oil pump shaft offset forwar according to all manuals. That puts rotor on #4 post on distributor which How I set chain on.
