2.3 head with 2.6 valves

Postby SuzyQblue » Thu Nov 12, 2020 8:23 pm

So when I bought this truck the previous owner had put valves from the 2.6 in a 2.3 head. He also put double valve springs. It started burning oil pretty bad so I figured it was stem seals. I was correct. The valve spring retainers were smashing into the seals. Here’s my question. What combo of springs, retainers and seals should I be using. I noticed the only difference between the 2.6 is that the valve heads were bigger and the stems were shorter. The guides and seals seem to be the same. I can’t seem to find a combo that gives me enough clearance but also leaves enough of the valve sticking out the top. Anybody got an idea?

Well I haven’t really found anything pertaining to my problem and crickets and this post so I’ve got some crowed springs and retainers that are supposed to be compatible. Right now I’m running it with a random set of titanium retainers I found and the double springs. I really have to change those soon because they really aren’t quite big enough and the springs are walking around underneath them.

Also just put all new rocker arms and shafts because the stock ones were worn pretty badly. Hopefully they the new rocker arms don’t mess with the old cam. When I was installing all that I realized that some of the clips that hold the rocker arms in place we’re contacting the rocker arms. I had to reshape them to clear. I think this was because of the reground cam and the new geometry of the rocker arms. It’s probably what caused them to be worn out. You can see in the pictures where the clip was contacting the old rocker arm and where it was hitting the new one when installed.

Anyway, I hope this helps somebody. This is my first time doing work on the internals of a motor so having to figure all of this out has been a real pain in the butt. Especially when my other truck is broken down and my motorcycle was just stolen. :x :x :x

I wish I could help. Have you posed any of your questions on http://www.planetisuzoo.com. ? Knowledge and experience with the 2.3 and 2.6 might be a bit more vast than here. Not trying to brush you off, but trying to get some help for ya.

Puttputtinpup thanks. I’ll give it a shot. That might be where I saw something about a hybrid head.
