occassional rough idle

Postby Tranz » Sat Aug 05, 2017 6:45 am

My 95 Zu pickup with a 2.3 > fuel injected has began doing something. Some months back I went to start it and just cranked over. I put a new coil in it and bamm it started right up. Now for about two weeks it starts right up but will barely idle without giving it gas. Two days ago I took the EGR valve of and cleaned it up up and stuck it back on. I did notice that when I took it off there was no vacuum hose from it so I put one on it and plugged it into one of the other hoses coming off a T, as soon as I did it killed it. With the motor running I put my thumb over it ans it does nothing. Is there anyone else who has experienced this or similar situation? After I accelerate it for a minute the rough idle dissipates. Yesterday driving along a busy street it sputtered and then picked up again. When I parked and came back to it it wouldn't start. I waited about ten minutes and she started right up. HELP this driving me bonkers not being able to figure this out.

since it's fuel injected, does it have an idle air control valve on the throttle body? It may be malfunctioning, or need cleaning.

If it is the idle air control valve is there a way to clean it? New one's for my pickup are a $100.00 so I'm seriously hoping to be able to clean it up instead.

Look for some throttle body cleaner that is also good for idle air control valves. You may find a used one at a salvage yard if cleaning yours doesn't help.

How do I clean it. I noticed I have to take half the throttle body apart to get that valve off on mine

I've never messed with one from an Isuzu. The 2.2 Camry, Windstar mini van, first crown Vic are all easy to get to. Couple of bolts and off the come
