Blue Ridge Parkway

Postby Rjonesy » Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:31 pm

Wifey would like to drive the parkway this summer, probably early June. If I happen to be successful in convincing her of the joy of a “P’Upsploration” I was wondering if there might be any members near the parkway with whom we may perhaps share some P’Up lore and possibly a meal. Heading from TX to southern end and returning from DC area.

Depending on when you're coming through the area, I live between D.C. and I 81/rt11. All that goes down and connects with the blue ridge pkwy and skyline drive.
The town I'm in is Leesburg, VA. I would also love to take the pup out to pupsplore a little. Was thinking about the blue ridge pkwy the other day when driving down 81 with the family (in our leased Nissan Rogue, which I don't like at all)...
We were driving down to Blacksburg va, to go test drive and buy a 1990 Toyota master ace SURF. It's got a Toyota 2c-t turbo diesel, and it's got the right hand drive, and only 60k! That place is worth the stop for sure because they have a huge old car museum, and it's mostly old Japanese imports and some old American classics. But you can sit in the cars and stuff. Pretty neat! And it's free! Just gotta go out and check their dealership lot too cuz they sell some really wild stuff there!

Hi Rjonesy. I'm going to hijack your thread for a moment, but be right back!

Creeptown57, I'm guessing you were at Duncan Imports and Classics. Technically in Christiansburg, Va. (Blacksburg is a few miles farther down the road where those Hokies run around. I'm actually a Va. Tech retiree, so I like to pick on them.) I'm with the Roanoke Valley VW Club. Usually closed on Sunday, Gary Duncan opened up one Sunday to give the Star City Classic T-Bird Club and us a private tour. I think you'll agree, it can't be described, you just have to see it.

Rjonesy, if you happen to be a little later in June, Friday the 22 starts Star City Motor Madness in Roanoke, Va., just a little off the Parkway. http://starcitymotormadness.com/

Friday night starting about 6 pm is given to cruising Williamson Rd. Classics, customs, rods, and whatever your ride is will be on the street. The Volkswagen Club usually has a cookout in the parking lot of one of the local businesses to watch the cars go by. You and your family please be my guests. If that's not in your schedule please let me know when you're passing through.

And if you're heading for the southern end of the Parkway in North Carolina, this is one of my favorite rides nearby. https://tailofthedragon.com/

Cool info. Looks like we'll be driving South to North probably from Cherokee on 6/8 or 9. Not sure of pace or number of stops.

Yes I went to Duncan imports. The place is fantastic. I would suggest anyone who likes old/odd cars, that should be a destination.
The museum is great plus their for sale collection is like no other! Only thing they're missing is the p'ups. They do have some isuzus though!

If you're driving the pup, the pace will be none other than slow! I maybe out west doing some pupsploring with my son around that time, hopefully we can meet up.

I sent you a PM. It shows still in my outbox and not picked up yet. There's a good deal on a rear pup bumper near you.

Let me know when you're passing through. My "range" along the Parkway can be as far south as the 165 mile marker, (Floyd) to as far north as the 50 mm (Buena Vista), depending on just where I am, what I'm doing, etc. I can be reached at 540 529-7129. Ed.
