No start
Instrument panel lite up, glow plugs warmed, engaged clutch and nothing. Wishfully tried 2 more times and with a slight turn of the engine on the third try I noticed smoke coming from where the battery is.
Starter was changed out 18 months ago. There is a few wire harnesses next to the battery for glow plugs and to the starter I believe. Is it as simple as the connection went bad in the harness?
Any insight to maybe a relay or bad starter / selenoid? Push starts just fine all other battery functions opperational.
Thanks ! Happy Memorial Day. Hope were all enjoying it!

Re: No start
There are several slip connectors by the battery.....connecting a fuse type wire
My experience they get all corroded and fall apart
You can clean with baking soda.....check restiance with ohm meter and repair as necessary
You can purchase new wire and replace as necessary
Wire is fuse type ....forgot correct name

Checked
Pulled starter and the short wire connecting the selenoid to the starter motor corroded and made contact with the selenoid housing. Napa confirmed : bad starter.
Just waiting on the new one from rock auto to see if I’m back into the turn key world.

Although my starter and solenoid are different than yours, and in light of your changing yours out 18 months ago, can you say (is it allowed here?) what brand name the unit was from? Was it rebuilt, or new? Being skeptical, I'd welcome ideas of what providers to avoid in the future.

Red truck
All I can get is
Starter R712343A
Searching that seriel number takes me to an oriellys
Then in description indicates NipponDenso as the remanufacture
http://alternatorstarter.com/innovative-solutions/denso
That seriel number may be used to refence any starter for the diesel pup?
The only problem with mine seems to be premature cracking of the wire casing.

Re: No start
Thank you for your time and effort. That R712343A desig may be just an Oreilly number...and I suppose that reman companies can let an occasional dud slip by. Again, much appreciated!

Re: No start
No Jack ,
I had ordered one from rock auto a soon as I determind the starter was bad. Installed it / cleaned connections / and no fire - then I remembered I had ordered a starter relay and plugged the new one in and presto!
Otherwise I would be begging Mark at Arrow Mountain Diesel for help - instead im longover due for a isuzu mechanics quide and tools such as multi meters / compression gauges.
Also very glad this place is here Thank you all.

Paul is giving away a Chevy Luv manual. If i were you, I'd take him up on it if it's still available
Re: No start
Jack/Andy - -
The manual is for an early 'before diesel' LUV.

Oops! Okay
Re: No start
I want to say thanks for the follow-up on your problem and fix. I'm not asking questions, but just wonder if the relay caused the starter to go bad (as NAPA determined), or the other way around. I would think that current would stop at the failed relay, but maybe not. And then, the new starter didn't again fail with the bad relay still being used. Glad to see it all works again, and you've expanded my troubleshooting procedures.
By the way, the starter relay you replaced, was it the black 4-bladed RY-39 mounted on the driver's fenderwell? I keep a spare, and wanted to be reassured I have the correct one. Also, if there's a Harbor Freight near you, they have a free multi-meter (find a coupon) with a store purchase. I'm sure you'll find something else to buy in there. I gave one to my neighbor, I got tired of him borrowing mine!
