garrett turbo?

Postby BigVanVader » Tue Sep 17, 2013 8:02 pm

Looks like I will be fixing my 86 trooper diesel.
Is the turbo a garrett t2/t3 or t25?
any info will help!
I do no trust any local shops rebuilding this one so I will buy a new one.
thanks

Stock turbos were t20's, with a t2 exhaust flange. Worked good when it was all designed, but smaller turbos are around nowadays that will bring more life to the engine. Faster spoolup with more efficient compressors mean power sooner in the rpms and will be cooler, denser air. I'm awaiting delivery of a Garrett gt1752, so far looks to be a perfect match, but won't be 100% sure till it comes in. They use the same t2 mounting flange, and are plentiful off eBay. They came stock on Saab 9.5. I bought mine almost new for the same price as a rebuild kit for the factory t20 turbo. $100!

I've been eyeballing those, let us know how it works out. I wasn't sure if it could all be indexed into proper alignment for the drain, downpipe adapter, wastegate control, and air outlet to align for our application.
Sure would be nice to have a little turbo action at 1500 instead of over 2200.

hey, i am in need of a turbo for one of these as well, have you tried out that turbo setup yet on your c223t?
just wondering if you had problems mounting it up,and how it spooled up.

I FINALLY measured the Garrett gt 1752, go to "using c240 parts to turbocharge your 223" thread in the diesel performance section to see.
