82 LUV Diesel, can't get new right engine mount to lign up

Postby Seer7 » Sun Oct 07, 2012 10:30 am

Has anyone changed engine mounts recently. I got new ones from Rock Auto this week and the right side doesn't look at all like the old one and the holes are off by about an inch at the frame. Both mounts have LH stamped in the rubber too which is strange, the box was marked right but there isn't any part number on the mount itself so I'm not sure if this is the correct one. The 2 studs on the old mount are pretty much centered but not on the new one and that's the problem. I contacted Rock Auto and they said they will compare pics on Monday. Tim

Yup, Had to loosen both mounts and jack under the center of the engine. With a little scooting around of the jack and about 30 minutes i had them inplace. Its tight to clear the taller mount and the studs on top pretty sure the trans was bumping into the tunnel when i got it high enough.

Do you still have your drip covers for the mounts? Its just a thin piece of metal with a rubber skirt to keep oil and fuel from dripping on the rubber and killing the mounts early. Something easily could be made from some thin flashing tin if they are missing.

I changed the ones on my 93 Isuzu about 2 years ago and I'm pretty sure there was a right and a left. Mine lined up fine.

These are a pain, but look at the right one compared to the original I don't think it's the correct one. The drip shield won't even fit onto it the studs are so far out of position.

I got my tall mounts from Jerry, I also recall being able to get the drivers side in first, then the passenger side i had to jack up high enough to use screw drivers to align the bottom mount holes and lower the engine with the screw driver guiding the hole. Then you could get the first bolt through. My drip shields fit though.
I'm sure the pics dont do it justice like looking straight at the two mounts.

Look closely at the top plate the studs are too far to the left (which is aft), if I force this in the engine is actually crooked to the right and all the mounts will be stressed. I don't think I'd buy DEA mounts again.

After ordering from 2 different places and manufacturers I found that you cannot trust the boxing of these mounts or the description online. I finally got Parts Authority in New York to look at the mounts in their warehouse and describe them to me. The Westar EM-8048 box (it's supposed to be the left side) had the correct one for the right side of my truck (with the studs centered) and now the drip shield will fit back on. On the left side I got the same mount from DEA (RockAuto) one with 2 in. rubber and one with 1 1/4 in. thick rubber with two different part numbers in 2 different boxes but both fit the left side, one was supposed to fit the right. it can get confusing when you get this many variations. I guess I would say you shouldn't have to force these in too much, it might be a good idea to look closely before you try to install them and make sure the studs are offset correctly and if not get the right one. I still don't have the correct one for the right side, it's on the way, but hopefully they are right about it.

Just a side note here. The ones I used on my '93 Isuzu, I ordered through a Kia dealer. I was told they were original equipment not aftermarket.

Man that sounds like an adventure! Glad to hear you have the right part on the way, yeah you should not have to tweek these too far. When I set mine in the one under the ip was only about 5/16 " forward needing the screwdriver to align with the frame holes. Sure sounds like someone in the parts supply chain bought up a bunch of reject or improperly boxed parts...

I think you're right Mike, they also told me that these mounts are used on over 80 different vehicles? It is a good mount but that's a lot of applications.

Finally got the correct engine mount from Amazon (Parts Factor) it was boxed as a EM-8048 which most descriptions say is for the left side?? See how the studs are centered in the top plate and between the frame mount holes. This fits the right side of my truck.

I ordered some Anchor motor mounts for an 83 diesel from RockAuto. The part #8049 listed for the right side was a perfect match for the left side and the part #8577 listed for the left fit the right except it was 2 1/4" high not 1 1/2" high like the old one. The holes and studs were in the right place but it was 3/4" to tall. I am trying to get a credit or exchange from Rockauto.

Jim, please let us know how this turns out. They've never left me feeling positive about them after issues like this that I've had.

Rock Auto emailed a prepaid FedEx return label. I ordered the Anchor motor mounts because there had been problems with the DEA motor mounts fitting. There was nothing in Rock Auto's reply if they were correcting the problem of the motor mounts not fitting. The brand X motor mounts are 1/3 the cost of the factory mounts.
