throttle cable stuck in cold

Postby danorte » Tue Feb 15, 2011 9:54 am

My 1987 T diesel space cab is not a daily driver in the snow. However during the cold last weekend it started fine but I was unable to push down the accelerator pedal. After a few minutes of warm up it worked just fine. Anyone had the cable freeze. ? can it be lubed, which end is easiest to access to lube? Thanks again. North

I can't see how it would freeze unless it got moisture inside. Or, I guess ice on the injection pump could block throttle (not really a throttle, you know what I mean) from moving.

Durn, Pump works fine by manual method. Only throttle cable is stuck. But after just a few minutes warm up it is fine. Has anyone replaced this cable. If so is it just easy disconnect. My try to lube it this weekend. North

Mine broke a couple of years ago. It was easy to replace. JLEMOND usually has them in stock.

Buy a back up now from Jerry while you can. Remove the old and keep it as a spare.

Check the bends if there real sharp, (at firewall in My case) it could be frayed at the bend. Mine has been hard to push for a long time. The frayed cable was why the throttle stuck open. Just take the cable off and try pulling it on both ends. Good Luck

new cable installed, yes 30 min or less. Looking at old cable still a mystery. Nothing frayed, nothing rusted. New cable does not look like old cable at throttle pedal end, however fit is perfect with no modification. Looks like they just cleaned it up and made it more simple. North
