Weird oil leak

I have had an oil leak for awhile and finally decided to address it...then I find this....it looks like the gold freeze plug looking plate is leaking. Any one ever seen this leak? Any other ideas? Looks like my rear seal is leaking and my transmission seal is leaking. I’ll contact Jerry and see if he has a replacement.

Found this in old post after searching. Sent an email to Jerry. Hopefully I can get this fixed fast.


“REMOVE THE REAR ENG TRANS ADAPTER PLATE , ON THE PASS SIDE OF THE ENG UNDER THE PLATE THERE IS A LARGE ABOTU 2 1/2 IN DIA CORE PLUG THAT SHOULD BE FLAT IF FACTORY IT WILL BE BRASS COLORED , IT IS THE CORE PLUG FOR THE CAMSHAFT BORE , AN D IF THE WRONG TYP OR INSTALLED WRONG IT CAN LEAK , THERE IS ALL SO A SMALL CORE PLUG RT AT THE END OF THE OIL GALLEY RIGHT CLOSE TO THE IS LARGE PLUG , SAME WAY WRONG PLUG OR INSTALLED WRONG IT WILL LEAK,”

That big gold looking plug is the camshaft plug.

You could replace the plug but it will be a LOT of work(Need to remove the camshaft and many many parts...).

You could replace that plug (And install new sealer) when you do a rebuild, since having the engine out makes it a lot easier.

For now the best thing to do: Clean around the plug with some break cleaner or any other good de-greaser.

Get it really clean and put a bunch of Permatex oil resistant silicone all around the plug.

And you should be fine.

On my rebuild I put red loctite on the oil gallery and cam shaft plugs. They will pretty never come out until you really want them to.
It's not pronounced "Ih-soo-zoo", it's pronounced "It-screws-you"

Ordered new seals from Jerry. They never leaked until I installed a turbo oil pump......maybe it has higher oil pressure.
Knock them sideways and pull them out?
Drive new ones in with bearing/race installer?
I’ll try the red loctite or some sealer.

They are called Welch plugs. They drop in, then you deform them, use something fairly sizable and flat and hit it with a hammer.

To remove them stab a small screwdriver in and take them out.
They can't be knocked in sideways. There is a lip on the block that they sit against.

There shouldn't be any pressure behind the cam plug. I'd red loctite those bad boys in there and really make sure they don't come out.

If you dent those plugs they don't hold as good. Just deform them so they aren't domed. Maybe half the surface area.
