Re: Straight pipin'! (for now)

Don't worry if Your pipe is more than 2 ft long and having the 90 degree bend from the exaust manifold. The cold air will warm as it travels up the pipe, thus keeping from any valve damage. Yea, I'm sure you could run it for sometime without a muffler and not damage the valves, but I'd work on gett...

Re: Straight pipin'! (for now)

Doesn't surprise me that it's too loud as any N/A diesel is just going to be that too loud. At certain rpms it is probably worse and you really can only control it if you gradually apply the gas pedal when accelerating instead of punching it. Since we are talking about a larger exhaust system for a ...

Re: Resource for npr 4bd1-t and others

thats a 3.9L isuzu engine right. or a 2.8-3.1 isuzu engine? chanses are your guna need a body lift for it to fit. Yes, the 4BD1-T Isuzu engine is a 3.9 liter displacement four cylinder that originally came in Isuzu medium duty cabover trucks from I think about 1986 to 1993. Then around 93 or 94 the...

Re: C223 transmission questions

I found a 4 spd diesel 4x4 tranny i believe. Do those have a removeable bell housing? Or is it all one unit? If you've found a 4-speed 4x4 diesel trans then you are in good shape, it's what is really needed for the swap you are looking to do. You have the 78 LUV 4x4, which has the 1.8 liter G180 ga...

Re: 09 meet

After missing the first two PUP meets here on the east coast I know I can't miss this one. You can put me down as another guy that's coming. I'd really like to have my Chevy LUV finished by then, but it may be asking too much. I haven't worked on it in a few years and need to go pick up my cab I bou...

Re: flywheel and clutch torque specs

Hi, I happen to own a 1982 Chevy LUV factory workshop manual that covers the diesel engine. The torque on the six flywheel bolts will be 65-72 FT LBS. *Install and tighten bolts in a diagonal sequence. The torque on the six clutch cover to flywheel attaching bolts will be 13 FT LBS. You may also wan...

Re: What's the most weight you've moved with an Isuzu diesel?

I wasn't around for when it happened, but my dad told me my uncle towed an old Land Rover (probably 60's or 70's vintage) on a trailer with his just about new 1981 Isuzu PUP 4WD shortbed diesel. And the first time I heard my dad tell me that I've always tried to picture it in my head and I know I'm ...

Re: Project: Isuzu Turbo Diesel GEN 4 (FOUR) Rods

Hey Ed, great news and exciting nonetheless. Heck, if it turns out to happen I'll buy 4 of the rods just to have them and I don't even own a C223-T diesel engine (haha)!

Re: Clutch or Transmission?

Update, I worked on the Trooper this past weekend on Saturday and pulled the transmission, clutch, and flywheel off. The transmission throwout bearing, fork, and shift block all look in good operating condition. The clutch was pretty well stuck to the flywheel. I mean I removed all six clutch to fly...

Re: Clutch or Transmission?

Hey guys, worked on the Trooper yesterday and reconnected the clutch cable at the narrow end of the clutch fork after disconnecting it last weekend to get a good look inside the access hole inside the driver's side of the bellhousing. I think I can most guaranteed confirm that the clutch fork is cen...

Re: New member

Hi Ben, yes the truck is a factory diesel 4x4. The oil pan and engine is designed to drop right in over any IFS axle 4WD Isuzu without any clearance issues I'd imagine. I don't think it can be completed using a 2WD diesel engine into a 4x4 vehicle. The truck is completely stock with 4-speed 4WD tran...

Re: Clutch or Transmission?

Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful and informative replies. Steve, you do bring up some good points about the clutch fork and throwout bearing holder. I'm ahead of the game though and before I posted this message I did remove the dust boot on the driver's side of the transmission bellhousing to ge...

Hey Todd, and welcome to the site. Sorry for the late post, but I'm looking at quite a lot of messages and posts I've missed over the past month because of lack of time about getting on the forum. And Jack, I'm not in western PA but actually live in the central region about as south as you can go (c...
