Re: Road Trip in the Trooper II

I made it to Portland. Gotta rental truck with a dolly in Grand Island Nebraska. Had to wait 'til after the holiday weekend to hit the road west. Made it 1,516 miles in two days with the Trooper in tow behind a U-Haul. Probably ended up costing more than a re-man transmission and installation. Crap....

Re: EMERGANCY, need a transmission on my cross country drive

Awesome. you guys rule. I'll hit up all the Portland area guys as soon as I get there. I made it up to Grande Junction Nebraska. I only had fourth gear for the last hundred miles or so. Now its dead, no forward drive at all. Not a truck for rent in the state, due to the holiday weekend. I'm gonna re...

Re: EMERGANCY, need a transmission on my cross country drive

I made it to Illinois. I ran at freeway speed after a day of driving on secondary roads from Kentucky to here. No more noise, and no more slip. I think I may have gotten some oil on the clutch or something. I'm clueless, and too tired to think about it. Stay tuned, I still have 2100 miles to go. The...

Road Trip in the Trooper II

Time for another half lap of the country. Last year I went From Virginia, to Lake Tahoe, to Portland Oregon and back to Virginia in the trooper. It went perfect except for the left rear wheel bearing was making a terrible noise when I was done. That was an easy 7100 miles. So now I'm going from Virg...

Re: mechanical fan delete

I replaced my stock radiator with a three core aluminium one from Summit. Got an electric fan kit from Autozone. Picked up over a mile per gallon, truck runs at 172 degrees all the time. I put in a good temp guage and a switch for the fan. I've only had to run the fan when I run the a/c or on really...

Still, The Oil Pours Through It.....

So far; I've stopped the oil leaking from the fuel pump, oil pressure sender, lower sump cover (oil pan), and still...... Could it be ? This silicone half circle that goes at either end of the upper part of the oil pan ? Swearing loudly. Out comes the engine. Anyone done this with the trans and tran...

Re: 2.3 fuel pump oil leak

An update. I found several oil leaks. Once the old fuel pump was out of the way, I could clean the engine and have a much better look at it from the wheel well. My block off plate is mounted external of the manifold. I put where the pump bolted on. Turns out, the plastic (Bakelite ??) spacer for the...

2.3 fuel pump oil leak

Well, I replaced the manual fuel pump with an electric one, removed the intake manifold and gasket. Removed the old fuel pump completely and fabricated a block off plate from steel. Put all new gaskets in, put it all back together, and still it pukes oil out the intake side of the engine. So now I f...

Re: 87 Trooper Drive Shaft

I was wondering the same things. Seems the center bearring support will have to come out. Does that weaken the frame?

Re: 87 Trooper Drive Shaft

Thats the ticket, Thanks a million. Looks like I was a tooth off when I put the center flange back on. happily, I had changed the center support bearing at the same time, so no new damage. Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the help.

Re: 87 Trooper Drive Shaft

Unfortunately, I removed the yoke in the center. I'm afraid I put it back on out of phase.
