Re: Turning On diesel after running out

Did you ever get this started? Did he try to tow it? If it won't start towing it with the key on, it's not going to start trying to crank it. I've started diesels that have sat around for almost ten years this way. What about the yellow wire to the temp sensor on top that always breaks off? Did he t...

Re: About time i followed directions

Did it come from the guy in Huntington? Probably not because he sold off all his stuff years ago. There is a guy in Lehi that was selling stuff a while ago, also.

Re: Ring and pinion assembly specifications

I have all the information you need in the Isuzu manual I have. Unfortunately, I don't know how to scan it. I'll see if I can get Graydon to help. The is s procedure for setting the pinion bearing depth and the bearing preload.

Re: Glow System Help

The first fusible link from the battery goes to everything electrical as mentioned.
The second fusible link from the battery is the power source for both relays
The third fusible link is in the line between the #2 relay and the dropping resister (which in turn goes to the GP buss bar)

Re: 86 Trooper TD with white/gray smoke...

crud is coolant that goes through the engine into the exhaust system when it's pulling it into the combustion chambers and out the exhaust. If I remember, it's sort a slimey sticky or gooey stuff instead of just the black soot. Also, look in the radiator for sort of tan oily gray stuff. That's oil o...

Re: 86 Trooper TD with white/gray smoke...

I am thinking whitish gray smoke is from burning a little cold. It might be the glow system isn't working or the turbo may not be working right from taking a warm up to get up to snuff. If the oil is dirty or stiff, it could be causing this, although I am not a turbo guy. Try heating the block up wi...

Re: 2.8l Turbo Diesel will not run. Both engines.

Two quick things I can think of. 1. take fuel line off at the injection pump and turn on engine (fuel pump) and see if your are getting fuel flowing to the IP. If not, then remove the line Before the fuel filter to see if that's plugged. 2. As I've always suggested from experience...have you tried t...

Re: CNG $70.

Diesel here in Salt Lake area got down to around 1.93 was all. It's back up to 2.03. I do the billing for Amtrak (diesel locomotives) here in SLC, and from what our daily index is doing, it looks like diesel may be going up a little more. That said, because this is an alternative fuel forum, I am pa...

Re: check out this SLC truck.

It was an 82 delux 4 wd diesel with 93,000 miles. It'd been owned by a Delta Airlines mechanic. It had plush bucket style seats that were still in good condition. It looked really sweet. It was silver on the top and grey on the bottom like Graydon's 84 LS. Problem was it had sat for three years, but...

Re: Imark starting problems/ starter relay mystery.

My Chevette is an 81. I'll check, but I was thinking the controller for the glow plugs is the same as the Pup and the box your were looking at might be glow plug relays instead of starter relays. Give me a day or two. In the meantime, if you can hook a voltmeter to the solenoid (small) terminal on t...

Re: Imark starting problems/ starter relay mystery.

Does the box say something like" don't mess with the stuff in this box because you can screw up your glow plugs system"? If it does, it's like the relay set up on my Chevette diesel. If you want to check to see how the starter is working, take a big common screw driver and vary carefully t...

Rub your fuel prices in my face!!! The lowest I've seen it in Utah is 3.15 regular - 3.51 diesel. That's because we have so many refineries right here in SLC. I remember one summer, gas was cheaper in Idaho Falls, than SLC. Guess where Idaho Falls got their fuel? Better than that, the owner of the c...

Re: wont stay running

I just had a problem like this I fixed on a diesel Jetta. If it sits for a while, overnight, will it be hard to start. The problem I had was where the hoses hooked to the filter. Even though they were tight, they were deformed just enough by the clamp to leak. I put some sealer on the end of the hos...
