Re: Tranny trouble lost 3rd and 4th

Just a quick update, I replaced the 4 speed in my truck with a spare 5 speed that I had in another truck , well as luck would have it , 5th gear doesn't work properly which I didn't really plan to use anyway lol. I haven't taken the 4 speed apart yet to determine the cause of the shifting failure. M...

Re: Tranny trouble lost 3rd and 4th

I have not worked on it as of yet , with it down along with almost everything else in my yard in various states of upgrade or disrepair I had to fix my nova first so I would have something to drive instead of sharing with my wife :). I'm also flying our Friday to Las Vegas for a company training sem...

Re: Tranny trouble lost 3rd and 4th

the stick moves to the right and goes into the 3rd and 4th positions like normal but there is no resistance , like its hitting air? recently as it got worse popping out of gear it basically was hammering in and out of gear against the bungee cord and my assumption is it broke the pin on the fork. I'...

Tranny trouble lost 3rd and 4th

Well on the way to work today I lost 3rd and 4th gear, I still have 1st and second. When I try to shift into 3rd or 4th the shifter is not engaging anything. Does that sound like a rail problem? Maybe a broken pin or something on the rail ? Now the secondary information to this is I've been dealing ...

Re: brake booster upgrade ideas ?

Hey Jack , well apparently the earlier model trucks had a check valve but they stopped in 85 if I read right . I was thinking to add a reservoir and a check valve , Maybe our wizard Jerry might know why they removed the check valve.

Re: brake booster upgrade ideas ?

Joe I reread your post about capping off the nipple . Since I attached the vacuum gauge to the small nipple didn't I eliminate any possible leaks in that part of the system with the gauge attached ? I assume that was your reasoning for capping it off correct ?

Re: brake booster upgrade ideas ?

Joe I recently gained access to Mitchell on demand and I looked over the tsb's that were available , they mention that the vacuum pump should have a min. of 26.4 inches of vacuum running at idle once its stabilized. I will have to retest in the manner they specify to see if my 22 inch measurement st...

Re: brake booster upgrade ideas ?

Haha yes sir I mean dual , Joe I haven't found the problem as of yet, other projects had taken over but now i'm back on this one , when I put a vacuum gauge on the small port on the back of the alternator I get 22 inches of vacuum with the engine running at idle. When I apply the brakes the vacuum d...
