Re: Strange loss of power, engine dying, 2.2 l diesel I P'up

I had a similar problem as you a while back. The problem for me turned out to be that I had over-tightened a new fuel filter. The engine started well sometimes but other times it wouldn't and, like you, it didn't act up for the diesel specialist/mechanic. Anyway, I loosened the fuel filter to ease u...

Re: Truck won't start after reinstalling injector/banjo bolt

I had this same problem after reinstalling the injector banjo bolt. I read through this entire post and realized that what I was going to need was a vacuum pump and I didn't want to have to buy one just for this job. So I got a very big glass of water, went over to the truck and followed the fuel re...

Re: truck won't start without flooring the fuel pedal

Well, you were completely right Jack. It turned out, in the end to be the o-ring for the filter housing. I had tightened the new fuel filter too tight and the o-ring was squashed and probably twisted out of shape and was letting air in intermittently. I removed the fuel filter, cleaned off the o-rin...

truck won't start without flooring the fuel pedal

Hi everyone! I recently was driving up a very steep hill with just under half a tank of diesel. The engine suddenly cut to half power, so I pulled over, listened to it idle and it was about to choke so I stepped on the throttle to blow everything out and the idling resumed it's normal steady hum. So...

oil light on. oil smoking beneath oil cap.

Hello everyone! I have a 2wd diesel longbed from 1985 and the oil light has always been on since I purchased it at about 175,000 miles (now at 208,000 miles). It doesn't seem to leak oil very much but the oil always has a burnt smell and flavor, and when the engine has been at operating temperature,...

Re: Regulator fuse keeps blowing (15A)

Wow! You guys were right! I thought I had checked all the wiring until I noticed a tiny little electrical fire happening in amidst the cluster of wires that that runs across the top of the left side of the engine connecting to the glow plugs. A couple of wires had dry rotted insulation, were cracked...

Regulator fuse keeps blowing (15A)

Hello pupmeisters! My regulator fuse keeps blowing out which makes the engine cut off while running. The starter motor still works and occasionally, the engine will catch and idle for about 8 minutes before blowing the fuse again and shutting off. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is this the poin...

Re: transmission rattles like a cup full of marbles

Well, finally weeks and weeks later, including a missed flight to Lima, my transmission upgrade is finished. I ran into particular trouble by asking a clutch specialist what the torque on the clutch pressure plate bolts should be. He said "between 35 and 40 foot pounds". This kind of tight...

Re: transmission rattles like a cup full of marbles

Thanks for the tip Mark! I'll be sure and look extra closely at those for any signs of wear and distortion. I appreciate any advice in this matter because I've never done anything like this before and am slowly learning about what I'm looking at.

Re: transmission rattles like a cup full of marbles

Luckily they did give me my money back and I got royal purple fully synthetic 5W-30, recommended by J. Lemond and also recommended in the Isuzu shop manual. When I drained the oil from the old diesel transmission a whole bunch of metal bits and flakes came out with it, and there was less than a quar...

I do have a question though, specifically regarding reinstalling flywheel and all transmission components... How impo...

Re: transmission rattles like a cup full of marbles

Sorry, you've decided to sell the Pup. You could probably have gotten by w/ replacing a couple of $10 bearings.. Yeah, well, I decided in the end to not sell it and to go the hard road of actually fixing it and I was rather intimidated by the description of the transmission upgrade. But, well, I de...

Re: transmission rattles like a cup full of marbles

Thanks Jack and Andy for your help on this transmission question. I'm leaving for a several month long backpacking trip to South America and decided to try to sell my truck as is, without the 5th gear working and so far I've had a lot of interested people. It's hard to give up this truck because of ...
