No start after pop sound

Sigh It's always the day when you're like, "at least my Pup loves me" lol Jack, I'm guessing if the POS terminal end of a fusible link (I have two blue wires with plastic ends on POS terminal) was a bit frayed that might just be "a bad enough connection at the wrong place"? That ...

HELP!! Anyone on?? 2.2 No start after pop sound gotta get to work

Hi, I just went to start my decent running utterly reliable '81 pup daily driver ( glow plug 1x, glow plug 2x, (hot day, no need for 3) and turn key to start-- but instead of starting (rain shine heat snow ok) it lurched and made a horrible popping sort of sound. It then had absolutely no juice... J...

front rotor/caliper install nightmare, safety?

1981 4*4 diesel Pup, 15" Rodeo locking hubs. Hi, My partner just replaced my front brakes/rotors/calipers. Simple procedures he has been doing all his life. However: A previous owner had mismatched bolts all over the place and drilled some of the boltholes larger, as well as replacing the 14&qu...

Re: Timing was set high/CSD leak/black smoke: possible IP or other damage?

I finally got it! Broke my trimmed down wrench, so took off cover plate underneath and the battery and with a lot of finagling finally got it.. cutting off the broken end to make a stubby wrench gave me the room i needed. The key to the rear bolt (done from above) was using a thin metal rod to slide...

Re: Timing was set high/CSD leak/black smoke: possible IP or other damage?

Looks clearly like it was leaking at both spots but much more heavily at the pump juncture.

Re: CSD leak repair

I have and am trying to do both but I can’t getthose last two bolts to get between the CSD and the pump body. *sigh* holy moly. The old flat half metal half rubber washer that was by the big spring in the CSD did not even have a lip on it anymore so hopefully that helps, but if i can’t get the other...

Re: Timing was set high/CSD leak/black smoke: possible IP or other damage?

Well today is the day for the CSD gasket replacement....the tire is off, my wrench is ground down, the pictures well studied.....ok but frankly I am terrified.

But here goes.

Re: Timing was set high/CSD leak/black smoke: possible IP or other damage?

Ok duly noted. Thank you. I still have do do a good engine bay clean before I can rule out any other leaks but I will take a pic even before cleaning just in case.

Re: Timing was set high/CSD leak/black smoke: possible IP or other damage?

Putputtinpup: I will check that screw. I have a sneaking suspicion you may be right, as I considered the possibility of multiple leaks. Definitely keeping the CSD though, i change altitudes amd temps regularly. But good to know what to look for if I still have problems after leak and timing are reso...

Timing was set high/CSD leak/black smoke: possible IP or other damage?

Hi everyone-- First off, It's important to start with two facts: bear with me here... 1.)While I am smart enough to have *always* wanted a little, insanely long lived, durable, efficient, mechanical dieseI truck (whoops I meant a P'up lol),I am as ignorant as most of you are brilliant at this stuff-...

Re: 15"'s on a 4x4 Pup: what lift for proper clearance

Well it"s raining pretty good so no frame on tire pics yet...i tried and they were awful. But tires are 235 75R15 's, and here is a pic of what they look like on my ol gal. I am going for a functional, typical lift like you would see on an old 4x4 toyota hunting rig: not a mudder or rock climbe...
