Re: Why? Drivers side higher than Pass side

If the leaf springs are already sagging, matching the torsion bars will help, but the rear is always going to be a little lower, I would remove both leaf packs and checking them out of the truck, a cheap quick fix is replacing the 2nd leaf spring.

Re: Rebuild time

Ok folks so we are making progress!! I found a new (used) crankshaft and a connecting rod, it has a groove where the rear seal goes so a sleeve is going to be made at a machine shop, other than that it tested GOOD and no oversized bearings will be needed, I still need to measure the pistons and if t...

Re: Rebuild time

, I can see some play in the pistons but the cylinders look ok There should be about .006-.007 of play between the piston and the bore which you will definitely be able to feel. The question is how much play is there. That piston needs room to expand when it gets hot. Thanks, I’ll check tomorrow th...

Re: Rebuild time

I removed the head today, it feels like a dejavú, I can see some play in the pistons but the cylinders look ok, so it’s just another thing to confirm that the rebuild wasn’t done correctly.

Re: Rebuild time

Thanks for the info. I think I know what may have been done wrong. You said that chrome liners/sleeves were used. Let me ask you this: What kind of piston rings did you use? I ask because when you have chrome liners YOU NEED TO USE ONLY DUCTILE IRON PISTON RINGS or you will ruin it... If ductile ir...

Re: Rebuild time

How did it loose compression? It was a new rebuild, right? New sleeves and all, right? What kind of sleeves did you install? Chrome ones? Cast iron? What do you think happened? I mean what did make the engine loose compression so fast? Do you have any idea? I'm just wondering because If the rebuild...

Re: Rebuild time

Thanks, it was of huge help when polishing the crankshaft and replacing the rod bearings, however there is damage to the rod and the crank, not in the journal but on the sides, it has a lot of side to side play, I put it together and risked it all, it fired up and the knock went away and I could dri...

Re: Rebuild time

The number 4 rod bearing spun, I don’t have enough money for a rebuild, the crankshaft doesn’t look too bad so I’ll just polish it, polish the rod and the rod cap and throw new bearings at it, if I can get 20-30k out of the engine, I’ll be happy.

Re: Information about MSG4 4wd gearbox

I think it would be easier just to turn the max throttle bolt, it’s at the rear of the injection pump, it limits how much throttle can be given.

Re: Rebuild time

It was highway driving, I still don’t know what happened, I took really good care of it after the rebuild, did oil changes in time, never over revved, used quality oil and never overheated, maybe the mechanic left something wrong inside of it, I’ll get it towed home on Saturday and I will tear the e...

Re: Installing an alternator bracket on trucks with no ac

Here I am! It came out of a 88 22R, I think you could modify it to fit the power steering pump, the bracket itself is really sturdy, I don’t have my truck with me right now but I will send you more pics.

Re: Strange turbo problems

Thanks everyone for your responses!! It did have more wear closer to the exhaust side and the turbine was making contact with the housing, previous owner turned the fuel up to the point of black smoke, when I got I readjusted it, but damage was done to the turbine so it’s not good for a rebuild, so ...

Strange turbo problems

The turbo on the trooper started to act weird... I was driving her after replacing the head and suddenly I could hear like the turbo was making contact with one of the housings, drove it home slowly and removed the intake, the compressor looks ok, it has no play, and it sounds like it’s the turbine ...
