Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Update: got her running. I was off by a tooth on the distributor. She fired up easily after that. But the next problems arose: my rebuilt injectors suck. Don't buy GB injectors. my #1 was stuck open and flooded the cylinder, hydrolocking it upon restart. I replaced it with one of the old injectors w...

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Well she's all back together. Having problems with the fuel pump relay, the charge circuit is not getting power which controls that relay. I jumpered it to get the fuel pump going to try to start. No go on the start. At one point she seemed to run just barely if I held the throttle open a touch but ...

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Well engine and transmission are in, now it's getting to all the annoying stupid little things before I can fire her up. Right now, the A/C lines (that you can see at the battery side of the truck) that didn't want to come apart and are now buggered. Every other A/C line came apart without problems ...

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

no im putting them in separately based on what i read about putting them in as a unit is quite difficult, lack of room in the engine compartment. That And side from one of the rear exhaust studs, I can't find a good place to put the other end of my load balancer. I'd be afraid to overstress that stu...

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Progress is slow. Right now im trying to figure out which way the transmission mount goes on, since one way is definitely backwards. Any tips?

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

A couple of questions: -Why did you use the 2.6 water pump instead of the 2.3? -Did the Impulse tranny not have the threaded hole for the cable clutch arm pivot? If so it seems it would have been easier to relocate the pivot, then knock out the hole for the cable clutch arm, then block off the hole...

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Ooh good call. Transmission is still out so it should be an easy check. I trust it's easy to pull off and swap?

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Little update: It's been a while. Work schedule has gone crazy sucking up my time, plus the project had run into unexpected problems. But as of right now, I'm making some strides. I missed out on taking photos on a lot of the process, so I apologize Impulse guts into truck bellhousing. Easy easy swa...

Re: Is frame rusting preventable?

Move to the desert southwest? Otherwise, CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN! I may be living in AZ now, but I grew up in MA and know all about car rot. Clean it as best as you can, then clean it better than that. Do it often between November and April. I mean twice a week, go with the underbody spray car wash 2x a...

Re: 2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Up In Phoenix! 89 Turbo! It'd been sitting there collecting dust and rust since 1997 lol. Anyhow I got my block stripped down to... just the block and crank. And pistons. Looks decent, just tired out. I tell you, the EFI system on the 95 2.3's is a sonovagun when it comes to removing the intake mani...

2.3 + a bit rebuild time!

Hey guys. So I've started on my rebuild for my 95 longbed. I have the engine about half out. I'll have a mirror thread going on over at planetisuzoo.com as well at http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=81282 So I'm going with Jerry's cam, 2.6 valves and perhaps flat top pistons. Dep...

Ha! Nevermind. I'm an idiot. So much gunk on it it's hard to tell what's what.

Having a bit of trouble getting the engine out

Mainly the intake manifold (95 2.3 EFI). Looks like it's two pieces but I'm scratching my head on how to get them apart and off the engine. After that it should be pretty straightforward I hope. Any threads on engine pulling around?

Re: 2.3/2.6 qustion

Question: what is the static compression ratio when using old style 2.3 pistons with new style 2.3 head?
