Re: Craigslist funny

That craigslist body brings up the whole "Lets eat, Grandpa" versus "Lets eat Grandpa" debate.

Given the price and not bothering with the pile of branches/needles, I am going to assume it is the later, in this case.

Re: Electro Magnetic Pulse

Well here is a little snippet for the report 85pupdsl linked, so a Carrington Event or larger hitting continental US would be very very very bad. "There are about 2,000 such transformers rated at or above 345 kV in the United States with about 1 percent per year being replaced due to failure or...

Re: Any Raspberry Pi Hobbyists Here?

One thing to make sure of if you pickup an ASUS TinkerBoard is to have a fairly high current power supply.
I picked up a 3 Amp power supply, since it did not seem happy on the older apple brick I was powering the RPi's on.

Re: Electro Magnetic Pulse

Quahlity, Wiping out half the people depends on location and level of the CME, look up the Carrington Event. That did not wipe out half the planet, though it did electrocute a few telegraph folks. A similar event today would make the grid go dark for at least 2-3 years, assuming more manufacturing o...

Re: Any Raspberry Pi Hobbyists Here?

Yep, RPi 1, RPi 3 and a TinkerBoard.
Needed the TinkerBoard for trying to read TPMS using GnuRadio, RPi 3 wasn't quite fast enough to not drop packets.

Re: Making Biodiesel

There are some interesting articles out there on fermenting glycerol into ethanol or butanol for instance.
Might be worth looking into if you are still struggling with the glycerol disposal issue.
After purification that ethanol or butanol could potentially be used to make more biodiesel ...

Re: installing a fuel cell

Out of curiosity, would you happen to have the ohm specs for the original fuel sender?

The 96-97 Rodeo/Passport factory manual listed the ohm readings for each 1/8 tank level from empty to full.

Re: Moving of the drop down resistor (just a curiosity)

It might make a difference to the longevity of the resistor, even if it does not impact starting / running.

Re: Super Trooper Restoration

Warrior, there are wires for the shift solenoids and another for the TCC lock-up, people have done discrete toggle switches for gear control in the past. Another option is to get a rail shifter similar to this one: http://radesignsproducts.com/Rail.html to control the gear more intuitively. You woul...

Re: Diesel HPR

That sounds like they fully hydrogenate the oils (think making margarine from vegetable oil) then crack them to shorten the average chain length to near petro-diesel spec. So no trans-esterification like in biodiesel, which adds 1 or 2 C to the oil based on if you are using Ethanol or Methanol. I of...

Basically moving one of the ends of the torsion bar a few splines so that your t-bar bolt sits in the middle of its range at the current height or lowered height.

Re: diesel circulating coolant heaters

I think they are typically rated in degrees/hr, you could go higher wattage for less time. So if a 1000 Watt unit does 4F/hr, you might be able to find a 2000 Watt unit that does 8F/hr and run that for 30 minutes to increase coolant temp by 4F instead of the 2F of running the 1000 Watt for 30 min. T...
