Re: Turbo Diesel locked up

I have a nice 86 diesel spacecab with a similar frozen motor. I have used a number of cans PB Blaster. The PB Blaster now flows faster past the pistons but it is still frozen solid. I have another motor that I intend to install when I find the time. After I pull the motor I am going to press out the...

Re: Engine Smoke and Weird noises

I would recommend starting by replacing the timing belt. On a turbo motor the timing is set at 10 deg. Check the compression on all four cylinders and that will give you an indication if you are burning oil or getting to much fuel. The tubo may need new seals. Re: 86 Trooper turbo diesel with turbo removed- help?

I believe the white smoke is unburned fuel. There is a small hose on top of the pump that increases the fuel with vacuum when the turbo kicks in, you might try disconnecting that to see if the white smoke goes away or decreases. Without a turbo a trooper will be under powered. The turbo adds about 2...

Re: Head Bolt Torque angle vs ftlb

I happen to have a factory turbo head gasket. I also have a ITM and Fel-Pro head gasket. The ITM head gasket is almost a perfect match to the factory head gasket. The other gaskets that come with the ITM gasket set are of lessor quality than the Fel-Pro or factory gasket set. The Fel-Pro head gasket...

Head Bolt Torque angle vs ftlb

I noticed that for the C223 the head bolt torque specification is in ft lbs and on the C223t the head bolts have an angle specification for torque. I am putting a head gasket on a nonturbo block with a turbo. I have no idea why there are two different specifications. Are the head bolts different? I ...

Re: Trooper P/s into Luv truck

I was going to install power steering on my 81 before it disappeared. It was my understanding that the shaft in the steering column is a different length with and without power steering. It is my understanding that the shafts are interchangeable. I believe there are some posts where the shafts were ...

Re: Intermittent rattling

I had a low millage 83 pup for a while. It came with bad universal joints and a bad motor mount. The universal joints made significant rattling. The pup was turned into a dealer for a new vehicle. I have always wondered if it was turned in for the rattling. Jim 1981 diesel pup 1985 4x4 diesel pup 19...

Re: Isuzu c223T accelerating problem

My guess is that it one of three things. 1) the throttle cable is sticking 2) problem with the turbo and engine oil is going into the intake 3) problem with the pump

Re: Timing Belt Replacement and Oddity

It looks like you are off a tooth on one of the gears. I do not think this is your problem but I have seen in the past where the key way in the hub on the crank gets warn.

Re: Fuel Bypassing Injection Pump

My guess is that the check vales in the pump are no good. Paul has some details on the site on how to rebuild pump. I think in that posting he explains how the check valves work. You would also have to have an air leak for this to happen. Jim 1981 diesel pup(gone) 1985 4x4 diesel pup 1986 diesel tro...

Re: Scary clacking noise progressivly worse one cylinder.

Is the turbo spinning free with no play in the bearings? My trooper that I have to find time to put back together had a broken heat shield on the the bottom of the turbo that was making noise.

Re: Motor Mounts

It is not necessary to remove the injection pump to change motor mounts. I had an 83 that had bad motor mounts and bad u-joints. The original owner traded it in on a new car. I am sure he assumed that the pup had major problems.

Wiring Harness Compatability

I have a nice 86 4x4 gas pup that I am going to trans plant a diesel into. I have a diesel wiring harness in excellent condition out of 82 or 83 4x4 pup. Will this harness plug into the parts on the 86? I think in 83 they changed the location of the ignition switch and have no idea what other proble...

Re: insurance assesment value

Someone stole my 81 pup a number of years ago and I went though a similar problem with my insurance company. The insurance company hired an independent appraiser. They came in around 1800. I found some comps and submitted those. We ended up settling for around 3300 which was way less than I would ha...

Re: Stolen P'up in Portland OR

That is great news. My 85 came with a kill switch. It is a pain to push the button in order to start it every time but I know no one is going to figure out how to start it and drive away. The switch activates a relay that allows the starter to work. The person that I bought the pup from lost it a co...
