Re: Alternator Removal Question

puttputtinpup - we're on the same page with that suggestion. I just couldn't think of the right word - "bushing".

Re: Alternator Removal Question

Not speaking of Isuzu specifically, but I have seen some alternators with a small tube (~1" long) fitted into one leg of the alternator mount, and into the block or bracket. The long mounting bolt then passed through this small tube. Could yours have such a piece. A punch or screwdriver would k...

Re: Information about MSG4 4wd gearbox

Hej dag Bosenswe - that sure is an interesting project you have in mind. I am surprised Sweden has such liberal laws to allow a person to make such a vehicle. I am sorry to see no one has offered any suggestions yet. I have the workshop manual for that transmission, so will try to have a look at it ...

Re: E-Stop Kill Switch

The 4JB-1 diesel in my pickup has a theft-deterrent switch that hooks into a fuel cutoff solenoid on the diesel injector pump. Works perfectly to stop the engine.
Perhaps you injector pump has similar?

Re: Year range for instrument cluster with tach swap out?

Have a '91 double cab. Took an instrument cluster out of a Rodeo of similar vintage that has tach, charge gauge, oil press gauge and temp gauge. Yes it was a 4Cyl. Plugged it in place of the original cluster. Had to add an oil pressure sender from the Rodeo. Had to put the correct transmission-to-sp...

Re: Throwout Bearing Squeal

Agree with duck. Had a squealing throwout bearing as I left home for a 40 km trip. Said to myself, "I'll have to replace that very soon". Got to the destination, but 2 km on the way back the clutch failed - up hill of course, in heavy traffic of course! Flat deck home, and to the garage. O...

Re: Lifting my pup

I too own a KB, though 1991, here in Costa Rica. The previous owner "lifted" the pick by adding longer body and box supports. They were steel tubes with closed top and bottom, and a hole through the centre for the bolt. I had to replace all the originals he made as they were too small diam...

Re: Slow to start after sitting several days

Well, went back to the diesel mechanic today and got an explanation. Again, remember it is all in Spanish, and rapid Spanish at that! Apparently this model of Bosch diesel injector does not have any vacuum connections. And apparently it had some sort of temperature sensing valve, which compensated f...

Re: Slow to start after sitting several days

Thanks Puttputtinpup: I don't see any vacuum lines on my diesel pump. I tried to post the the diagram of the Bosch VE pump from my 4JB1 Isuzu workshop manual but couldn't. I note that it doesn't mention vacuum either. I did find a small auxiliary vacuum line at the back of the alternator, which had ...

Re: Slow to start after sitting several days

Well, maybe I spoke too soon! Still does the variable idling thing. Looks like I'll take it back to the mechanic and ask him what he can do.

Re: Slow to start after sitting several days

Thanks for the replies fellas. I checked all the fuel line clamps, and tightened them as required. Most took only 1/16th of a turn, a couple 1/8th turn, but it seems to have stopped the two problems.

Slow to start after sitting several days

I have a 4JB1 diesel in a 1991 pickup. Recently the injectors needed replacing and the diesel pump needed repairing. I'm not sure exactly what was done to the pump - the whole job as done in Spanish, not my mother tongue. Since the pump repair I find that if the truck sits for 2 days or longer, it h...

Re: Ventilation blower won't run

Since the motor has been replaced, here is a possibility - and it DID happen to me on a vehicle I bought. Assuming the fan motor is spinning but no air comes out - the fan, being a centrifugal type fan, had been put on the shaft backwards! Yup, it tried to pull air from the same place it was trying ...

Re: Vacuum Reservoir? Good Idea?

Thank you Paul. I too had wondered about a leak. Recently had the alternator regulator replaced - which meant the mechanic dismantled the whole unit. Perhaps not re-assembled correctly. Haven't had time to evaluate his work yet. I have also wondered what the vacuum actuator for the exhaust brake act...

Vacuum Reservoir? Good Idea?

I have a 4JB1 diesel in a pickup. This motor is fitted with an exhaust brake, operated by vacuum. The vacuum comes from the pump on the rear of the alternator. Via a TEE the same pump supplies vacuum to the brake booster. On long gradual downhill runs the vacuum brake works fantastically. However so...
