Re: Repair Sleeve on front Cranksshaft

Brent, Was there any machining on the crank gear or did that sleeve just slip over the gear? I have at least 4 of those drive gears that are worse than the picture you posted that are really unusable. That could be a solution. Thank you for the post and the part #. Sorry your new seal was still leak...

Re: A few random questions.

That is not foam. Take them out, Noting the direction, and soak them in an oil cleaner solvent. They will clean right up.

Re: Head Gasket Replacement

I can't emphasize enough the value in doing the test I described in your other post. It will lead you right to the issue if it is the head gasket. Compression gauges are not to bad at Harbor freight. Getting a manual for your truck will help you out in all other areas and will give you the procedure...

The truck is striped down to the cab and chassis and is now on the back burner. I got rid of all the bed, tailgate, bumpers and seats. It will be a project for another day and will end up with the flatbed that is in my avatar.

Thanks for asking.

Re: White Smoke

The front valve is the exhaust. The valves line up accordingly to the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

Re: White Smoke

Do a compression check on each cylinder. If you have one low, then put that cylinder on the compression stroke (both valves closed) and apply air pressure to the cylinder. This will tell you where your compression is escaping from. Air in exhaust-exhaust valve, air in intake manifold- intake valve, ...

Re: Bad valves (I think)

Pull the glow plugs out for ease of turning over the engine. Pull the top timing cover and make sure that your engine is in time. Then perform a valve adjustment and manually turn the engine over with a socket wrench to feel for any interference or tight spots. The valve lash is set at .016 in. Doin...

Do that and report back to us Soren. The lower pan gasket would be pretty easy to make using the pan itself as a pattern. just have a small roll of gasket material handy.

Re: Timing Belt Replacement and Oddity

Make sure the small pin on the crank hub is pointing straight up, which I bet it is according to the pulley. (the balancers have been known to shift though) .With the crankshaft and the IP in set positions, then set the cam to match the IP and you will have it.

Re: Timing Belt Replacement and Oddity

Nope,

Something is out. I see you have the injection pump bolt in place which means the IP is in the right position.
