Re: So you want to add a tachometer!

Another inexpensive, and very simple route, is to use any tach with a 4 cyl engine setting. Fabricate a symmetrical, precisely drilled bar that goes across the front crank pulley. Mount an ABS sensor(the Dakota ones are inexpensive)so the bar ends create a signal in the sensor. Wire 12V accessory p...

Part of Alabama is pretty close to me -- but not that part. ;)

I'm in Germantown TN (next to Memphis).

Re: Diesel swap questions for '88 Pickup

Gus, I split your diesel swap questions out into a new topic (here). Please tell us more about your '88. Is it a 2.3 or a 2.6? If 2.6, you will need a transmission with the diesel engine. If 2.3, you will need a diesel bell housing (that's actually the front case half). All this is assuming you're w...

Re: Intro from Namibia

Welcome to the site. You may not know, but that 3.1L engine is several years newer than the 1986 Trooper. The 4JG2 engine was introduced around 1992 and was offered for several years.

Re: Gus

Hi, Gus. I moved your intro here. It was originally posted in another topic. Welcome to the site. Since there were no P'ups after 1987, we call your truck a "Pickup" (that's Isuzu's bright idea, not mine. ;) ). You've been here almost a year now, so I'm pleased to finally "meet you&qu...

Re: To Nashville and Back

Hey Jack your truck ain't lookin half bad. hehehehe Can't complain, that bed is super straight! A paint job could make the look seamless, if he so decides. :D I decided that a long time ago. It's just taken a while to find someone who will do it right. I'm talking with a fellow owner/member, and I ...

Isuzu Faster wrote:Jack, it's been a long time since I've seen your truck (3+ years), but what happened to your old bed and stock wheels?

I gave the original wheels to a local member. The bed was beyond repair, so I hauled it to the scrapyard.

I had similar experience with mine. From what I've heard, that's pretty typical.

Re: Speedometer Cable

I found a couple on rockauto but they are for an 88. Everything I’ve looked at said they won’t fit an 89. I’m at loss also. If their cable for the 1988 is the same part they list for the 1987, then it's probably the wrong cable for the 1988. Quite a few suppliers had some confusion over the '88 mod...

Re: Transmission job.

Well advance Auto sold me Pennzoil synchromesh. What viscosity? I live in a warm place. I use 5 30 motor oil. The same people at Auto parts store says it's good for older vehicles. I think I'd want to look this up in an owner's manual or a service manual. I don't know what' Isuzu recommended for ga...
