Re: My new 85 diesel Pup

Oh yeah, the oil in the bed of the truck was just a corrosion preventing protective coating I added to keep the rust away. Pretty technical stuff. :) I think there may have been a boat motor back there at some point... Sorry, I can't say I know either of those guys; I bought it from my boss at the t...

Re: My new 85 diesel Pup

So did we lose Diesel Chic Magnet? Hate to see someone give up, but the truck is in good hands, anyway. Jack I'm not gone guys, just without a pup... for now... Yeah... I guess giving up is what I did, but I have too many big towable projects right now that the little pup wanted no part of, not to ...

I actually called them after I read your post Jack, and I think that they are going to cover it. Thanks for the tip

Re: Blown Fusible Link...?

How do you tell which link is which? They both look the same to me... By the way, don't take any vehicle you own to Jiffy Lube for a simple oil change. Took my dodge there a while back, apparantly they overfilled it, and the resulting high oil pressure blew the oil pan gasket. Have to lift the engin...

Blown Fusible Link...?

I believe my P'up has fried a fusible link connect the glow plugs to the battery. That may or may not be the right terminology for the part, but to describe it, its on one of the two wires that come off the battery that I have been told run to the glow plug system. The little snap connector for the ...

Re: Starter is slow...

So... I was driving the truck yesterday, and I parked it and shut it off. I drove it for a good long time, so it should have been warm and ready to start without the glowplugs even turning on. About 20minutes after I shut it off, I went to start it again. I turned the key on and the GlowPlug light c...

Re: Air compressor not responding...

Thanks a lot Jerry, I'm pretty sure it is factory AC (how would you tell if it wasn't?), its the LS model, although maybe that doesn't necessarily mean it has factory AC. I will try your test this weekend and I will let you know how it goes. Oh and I will definitely wear safety glasses; sight is one...

Re: Air compressor not responding...

Yes, the fan is blowing, but I'm getting no response from the compressor. Keep in mind the A/C on most systems won't operate below 40F on most vehicles. I believe this would be the case on the P'up A/C system, but I'm not sure. Also if the system is too low on charge, it won't cycle the compressor. ...

Air compressor not responding...

My A/C no longer works in my p'up. When I originally purchased the truck the A/C worked fine, but after I got it back from my sister, the A/C no longer works. The air compressor doesn't respond whatsoever when I try to turn it on. It's getting cooler here now, but the summer's are brutal and I'd lik...

Timing Belt Change...?

Hey all

My P'up has about 155Kmiles on it, and I don't know if the timing belt has ever been changed. I have never changed a timing belt before on any vehicle.

How much is a timing belt?

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how to change it?

Thanks

Re: Oh please god not the heater core also defog problem

I'm also smelling radiator fluid when I turn on my heater. I found a small leak that looks like it might be coming from the heater core, but I can't be sure. Under the hood, on the drivers side of the firewall right near the brake booster, there is a tube that carries radiator fluid (not sure if its...

Re: Starter is slow...

There are instructions on the back of your visor? That's amazing...

I don't even have a spare tire jack.

So, yeah, it looks like the glow plugs were the problem. The ole' pup is running (and starting) just fine now.

Re: Starter is slow...

UPDATE: I changed the glow plugs today. The first one I pulled out looked ok, aside from being covered in soot, but the last three I pulled out were all broken at the tip of the plug, and the fourth one was almost completely disintegrated. I guess it's safe to say that they were in need of replacing...
