Re: Anyone with experience using a 4ze1 flywheel on 4fb1?

It probably doesn't relate to your application, but Jerry told me that someone had used a 4ZE1 flywheel on a 2.8L 4JB1T diesel. Much quicker spin up. Not sure how similar the 4FB1 is to the 4JB1T, but I'm curious.

I think they're the same. Jerry would know for sure.

Re: TRANSMISSION

Thrust bearings failing and ruining the block isn't unheard of with these engines. Look close at that area when you get it disassembled.

Re: TRANSMISSION

MUA5 with hydraulic clutch throwout lever is on the passenger side, at least they are on my Troopers. What side is the lever on on a MSG with cable clutch?

Re: TRANSMISSION

Here's a thought: Did the clutch work normally before the teardown? I'm thinking that a failed release bearing has friction-welded itself to either the pressure plate fingers, or to the release lever. The upper picture shows just about what the throw-distance of the release lever would be. If so, h...

Re: TRANSMISSION

My guess is the pilot bushing hanging up on the trans input shaft? I'd say everything is unbolted, otherwise I don't think you'd have gotten it as far apart as you have. I think I'd get a buddy to help and try prying with 2 or 3 pry bars at one time, spaced equally. Try to keep the input shaft and c...

Re: Which drive shaft for 95 pickup 2 wheel drive

Isn't a 4wd transmission with transfer case longer than a 2wd transmission? Is so, 4wd rear driveshaft would be too short, assuming both trucks are the same cab and bed configuration. If both 2wd and 4wd transmissions are the same length, you'd be good, but that's a question I can't answer. My son h...

Re: Rear gear

So maybe I should pull the rear assembly from the dinner and put it into the Ranger? I wouldn't give up on the Ford rear yet. If a suitable ratio is available from Ford, I'd think it would be easier to change out Ford parts than swap in the Zu rear. I'm with Jack, with the Ranger being heavier I su...

Re: 4JB1 Engine BellHousing & Compatibility

Here's a wild guess. I think those are the specs for what I call an industrial motor, used in forklifts, skidsteers, water pumps, etc. Note the exhaust outlet-vertical-up-rear. I think most industrial motors have a standard bellhousing pattern. Again, just a guess.

Re: 2wd to 4wd conversion

Truck does look very clean. Good score. It's my understanding that the 88 and up pickups (Jack will tell you it isn't a P'up) came with a 2.3 with 2wd and manual trans. I think the 2wd auto's came with the 2.6. All 4wd had the 2.6. Think after '89 you could also get the 3.1 V-6, only seen it in the ...

Re: 2wd to 4wd conversion

Can't help you with the frame question. I was under the impression they're the same, but have no firsthand experience. If no one chimes in here, give Jerry a shout. Are you planning on going back with a stock Isuzu drivetrain? My son has an '88 std cab 4wd 4 cyl 5 speed pickup.

Think I remember Jerry recommending CV joint grease for the auto hubs. Regular wheel bearing/chassis grease is too thick.
